FJ/5100 Lift with 32" Tire Which setting?

FJ/5100 Lift with 32" Tire Which setting? NOW WITH PICS!!

I did a bunch of searches, but I'm still a little confused. I'm about to install the FJ/5100 setup and I'm trying to decide which setting to use. I know that most run the front on the .85 or 1.75 notch. I have 265/70/17 tires and I'm curious if it's going to look silly if I go with the max setting up front(Approx. 3") and 2" lift in rear? I want it to "look" lifted, but I can't stand that look when someone has a bunch of lift and tiny little tires:-) Thoughts?

how r u getting 2 in. rear lift, did u buy a spacer for it? the fj rear coil will only raise it 1/2. personally, i found 2 up front & 1 or 1/2 in. rear just fine with 265/70/17.
 
What Chaz said, you'll only get approximately a 1/2" rear lift. Use the 1.75 setting as you have the V8 like me. It came out almost perfectly level when I did my swap, I have a 1/2" rake instead of 2" rake with stock. I love the new look! and you'll love the way the thing rides when it's complete.

My current tires (were brand new on the truck when purchased) are 245/70/17 and they don't look small on the lift. Remember, the 265 is the width of the tire and the 70 is the sidewall height. I think 65's look small on lifted runners but the 70's look good.
 
Clarification: 70 is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width. So a 265/70 is actually taller than a 245/70.
 
Yeah, fully aware I'll only get about 1/2" in the rear. Reason I'm asking is because I'm thinking of adding a spacer in the rear or 2" lift coils. I just don't want to end up taking everything apart and doing it twice...I don't have any real rubbing issues right now, so I know that I can get away with the 1.75" setting and FJ coils in the rear. Simply trying to decide if it's worth going a bit "higher".

If you are using AT or MT tires the bigger lift will look good but not so much with regular all-season tires. I personally think adding spacers and a small lift on the front makes a huge difference when using regular tires. This is what I've done.
 
Think I'll just go with approx. 2" lift in the front and simply install the FJ coils in the rear. Should end up with about 1/2" rake. I'll post up pics when it is complete. Thanks for the help guys.
 
yea, if u get 1/2 - 1 in. out back with just the FJ coils, & a full 2 up front, ur running boards should be just about dead on level.
 
Anybody have pics of a 3/2 type lift with 265/70/17? I would almost rather go with the 3/2 lift in order to fit 285 in the future and not have to re-do all the suspension. Will it look silly if I do this and only run 265s?
 
Just did this

Just installed the 5100 @ .85 Setting with FJ springs all around on my '08 V8.

I like the look with 265/70 tires. On mine it still looks like a little rake but the Side steps measure exactly equal front to back. IMHO with any weight in the vehicle it will look nose up at the 1.75 setting

I basically got 1/2 in lift in back and 1.5 in front (wheelwell measurement).
 
Ended up going with the FJ/5100s set at the highest setting and a 1.5" Daystar spacer in the rear. Now I have about 1" of rake from rear to front. Really was hoping it would be more level, but I guess it will do for now. I think it looks pretty good even with 32" tires. At least it looks lifted:-)

also curious to see pics as I'm going to take my 5100's to the top setting (2.25") and add a spacer when I need new tires down the road.

to add pics to the post, just hit "Post Reply" button, then below the area where you type it will ask you if you "manange attachments". The pics have to be low rez or they won't work.

Thanks, I'll try to get some up soon. I thought that at the top setting with FJ coils, it was supposed to give about 3" of lift? 2.5"+.5"(coils)?
