FJ Aux Light switch wiring

I want to use the FJ switch in my 4runner, but need to know if I need the pigtail first. I don't want to order it if I don't need it. I'm wondering if I can use my spade therminals on the switch bottom instead of the plug they have or if it has some odd connector on the switch. Anyone know?

After looking at the pics, I can tell that the pic in post 63 is the side of the switch, and looks like it has spade terminals on the bottom... maybe. Somehow I think I'm going to have to have both pieces...

I thought that the terminals were too close together for that to work. I got a bunch of those mini spade connectors and tried that but all the connectors were touching.

When I modded the VSC switch I just soldered small lengths of wire to each of the terminals you're talking about.

The pigtail harness is $23! I wish I'd have thought of soldering with the 3 FJ switches I have but it didn't hit me until later.

I like the KC lights, but the switch is HIDEOUS!

For anyone interested, here's the diagram and notes for the FJ Switch from FJCruiser forum:

"Pins 1 and 2 are the power and ground for the green LED built into the switch. When the switch is depressed, this little LED lights up and tells you that the switch in "ON". Basically a little indicator. 14-16 gauge wire is fine.

Pins 3 and 4 make up the switching circuit. You have a choice from where you would like your pin 3 supply to come from, and your decision will determine the opperational conditions of the lights. Again, 14-16 gauge wire.

* If you wire pin 3 from the battery/fuse panel, you will be able to use the AUX lights ANYTIME, ignition on or off. Good choice if you want to illuminate something with the car off. However, if you forget about them being on and go to bed, your FJ's battery is going to be dead in the morning.

* If you wire pin 3 from a switched 12V source, the AUX lights will only work when the ignition switch is in the "ON" position.

* Additionally, you can wire pin 3 from any 12V supply wire on the vehicle, but be aware that the AUX lights will only operate when that specific supply wire is active.


Pin 4 is the output to the relay. On the relay, there will be a picture of a little internal coil and switch, and labels for which pins are which. Wire pin 4 of the AUX switch to one of the pins on the relay that connect to the internal coil circuit. The other pin on the relay of this coil circuit should be grounded.

Pins 5 and 6 serve as the gound and supply for the backlight of the switch, meaning that whenever your interior lights are on, you will see the switch lit up similar to the ATRAC switch. As an easy hook up, tap the wire coming from the AUX switch pin 5 to the white/greentrace wire coming out of the ATRAC switch. Then, tap AUX pin 6 to the green wire coming out of the ATRAC switch. 14-16 gauge, if needed, is fine."

I actually ended up getting the harness so it's a little cleaner install and dash removal is easier. Power to the switch comes from a front marker light, so it's only powered when the lights are on, which worked out better to start with.

I wired:

power in - Purple and Green/Purple (Pins 3&6)
Power out - Red/Blue and Red/Green (Pins 1&4)
Ground - Black/gray wires (Pins 5&2)

This thread is often cross referenced for using the FJ fog light switch and I thought I would add my .02.

For people like me, who are cheap and won't buy the wiring harness, no worries. You don't need to. If you look at your switch so that you can plainly see its metal insides... the "Purple" wire would be at the bottom (Pin 6). The wires go in order upward (like in the diagram above) to Red/Blue stripe on the top (Pin 1).

I want to hook my Rigid reverse lights to it and eventually my other leds. So to hook them up I can solder them like gaterose did but I've never done that before so my only other option is to get the wiring harness that plugs into the back of the switch and splice into it with the wires coming from my leds?

Yeah that's pretty much it. The harness isn't cheap but it's the easiest way. If you search for FJ fog light switch on here you should be able to find the wiring diagram.

Pin-out for FJ Cruiser OEM switch 6 pin

Here is how to wire the switch. Holding the switch from the back (looking at the pins) with locking tabs on the right, I have numbered the pins top to bottom 1-6. Here is what they are:

Pin 1: Illumination Power for "Lights On" indicator light
Pin 2: Ground for Illumination circuit
Pin 3: Switch Power (taken from Marker Lamp Tap)
Pin 4: Line Out to Relay
Pin 5: Ground for Backlit Illumination Circuit
Pin 6: Illumination Power for Backlight

On the Harness side, cut the about 8" off the end (on the switch side). The colors are as follows:

Red with Blue Tracer: Pin 1
Black: Pin 2
Green with Purple Tracer: Pin 3
Red with Green Trace: Pin 4
Grey: Pin 5
Purple: Pin 6

Great Information here. I purchased the switch (OEM # PT297-35070-AS) but I'll be using it for something else.

Guys I am having a terrible time trying to get my FJ switch to work right.

It has been a challenge to figure out to say the least... But I was able to wire the LED bar to come on with the high beam only like I wanted. This involved reversing the polarity of things due to the funky high beam wiring.

Relay: Red main fused power to battery
Red switched power to high beam circuit with piggy back fused line
Negative Black to the actual driver high beam

This with a simple switch accomplished what I wanted light bar comes on when high beam are on only. Kill the high beams it kills the LED bar as well. But with a switch I can still turn the LED bar on and off separate when the high beams are on.

HERE IS THE ISSUE>

I got a nice FJ Fog light switch and harness. This is the switch that has the indicated ON light as well.

I got the switch to work per reading all over the web... here, FJ Forums and Tacoma Forums.

Switch works like it should.
Depending on what forum you are on they run the wire order as 1-6 or as on here 6-1
I will refer to the same order used in the post above to keep it simple. (though I will note that the harness is numbered and indicates the pins the other way around.)

So pins 5 and 6 are for illumination for the back light (Ran one to ground at cig outlet and ran the power (6) to the lighted switch near by.

Pin 3 and 4 took some time to figure out but basically got that sorted as well.

Pin 1 and 2 however I can NOT figure out. To me the negative shouldn't matter it can go to any negative, right?

The positive however has me stumped. If I run it to the line going out to the LED bar it just won't work right.

For example the light just stays on... IF the low beams are on. If the high beams are on it works like it should turning off and only comming on when you press it in. But as soon as I turn the high beams off the indicator light comes back on... I know, I know. This is VERY hard to follow without diagrams and pictures. I will try to get some to you guys.

Here is the digram I used to wire the basic on/off switch I had. Only difference here is that I didn't splice the positive of the high beam I instead did what others recommended and tapped the high beam fuse for the positive.
