FJ Cruiser/4Runner Ultimate 3" lift package Install Time

I am looking into getting the FJ Cruiser/4Runner Ultimate 3" lift package installed on my 07 v6 4runner 2wd. My quesiton is i was looking on toytecs site and i couldnt find out how long it says it takes to install. The only reason I am looking for it is the shop that was going to put it on charges 65 an hour and i was wanting to know about how long it took yall to install yours and if it will look good on my truck that has 265 75 16 bfg tkos on it, and does the kit come with any instructions? My understanding is that this kit doesent just lift the front but also the back to level it out. I had some spacers on my old tacoma that made the front higher than the back and i dont want to go down that road again.

Most places charge on a set time basis for their jobs. Meaning if you go to have fuse replaced, and their computer tells them its a half hour job, they charge you for a half hour even if it takes them 5mins. Best bet is to call them and have them quote you.

Although, on average it takes me about 3-4 hours to install spacers by myself with basic tools. It should probably take a shop 1-2hrs.

I called the shop and they said they go by the hour so i was trying to figure out how long it normally takes yall so it took you 1 to 2 hours? I called toytech and they said it should take anywhere between 4 to 6 hours i thought that was kinda high though.

hours and man-hours are different. 2 mech's working on your job for 2 hours is 4 man-hours. shop mechanics got paid by billable hours not by work hours. it's just a way to prevent "lazy works", no matter if you finish a 2 hour job in 30 minutes or 4 hours, you got paid for 2. most of the well organized shops have shop management software to quote customers.

in your case, 99.99% of the shops would not have seen it before, so wait till you got your stuff and shop around. 5-6 is normal.

4-6 hours is standard to swap out all four shocks and rear springs. 1-2 hours is normal for top out spacers. Just be thankful you don't have xreas. :ybrick:

Have you thought about doing the install yourself?
 
My mechanical ability ends with oil and filter change. My father and law helped me put a lift on my old frontier but i dont think i could do it by myself and he is on the other side of texas. So he couldnt help me.

Really, lifts are not difficult to install and can be done by one person in your driveway with minimal tools. IIRC, Toytec has excellent instructions on their website.
 
I just did the install myself two weeks ago and it took me and a friend 3.5 hours to complete the project. that was with removing x-reas as well, its pretty easy work. a spring compressor for the rear springs makes things a lot easier.
 
Since myn is just 2 wheel drive will this still work on my truck since i wound have mess with the front differential? ALso, will 265 75 16 tko tires look to small with the lift i just spend about a grand on new tires and would hate to have it look funny with small tires.

4 to 6 hrs is prob pretty normal. Ive heard of guys doing it in as little as 2 with a 2 man crew. Took me 8hrs to do my Daystar 2.5 and the FJ crossover, PITA.
 
I took me about 8 hours to do the toytech ultimate lift all by myself in my driveway. I did have air tools that helped but also I removed all of my exreas.

xreas is a a cross linked suspension system that connects the left front shock and the right rear shock (and Right front shock and left rear shock creating an "x") by hydraulic lines to create a firmer ride and help with on road cornering.

This is found on all Sports and some limiteds. You can either disconnect the shocks and leave the canisters (2 along the frame rails) and tubes or rip out all out like I did. This adds time if you do it yourself, some shops won't even touch it. you can tell by looking along your frame rail where your running boards are and see if there is a canister.

If you do have it, the best way to make sure you don't get fluid all over you is to put your rig on jack stands so there is no pressure in the system and disconnect each shock at the check valves. you don't need air tools to do it. just pb blast all the bolts 1-2 days before the install. took me 8 hours to rip the xreas out and install a full suspension / UCA with basic hand tools.
