fj cruiser 6" install on a 4th gen.

Thats the biggest thing, I want to run 35's and still have good suspension movement.

thats my biggest concern aside from regearing for this kit. its possible to run 35's without paying $3000, most have had luck with 3" of suspension lift and 1.5" of body lift for 35's, trimming on the bumpers required though

I'd imagine you could want 4.56's for 35s.... How are you guys doing with stock gearing and the 35s?

I seen most don't like the Drop Bracket lifts, but I have seen tons of them on Fords and Chevy's running huge tires. I don't understand how anyone can think they lose ground clearance, the bracketry sits where a solid axle would normally. As far as toughness goes, they are far from weak in any means! More than likely I will end up going that way as I like it, especially with some good skid plates, As for weight, I'm not scared of that with the V8 in mine.

drop bracket lifts are scary to 4runner guys cause we don't have the option of one (until now) so we never bothered to learn about them. i get them, and i almost like the idea, its just so much work/money to me. the weight of the tires shouldnt be an issue for your v8, it will however make your tranny very upset, i read someone say that if you don't regear when you go to 35's, you can expect the inside of your transmission to look like "mush". hearsay, but still something to think about

I can understand the uncertainty, and some of them look ridiculous! Case in point, the pink ford at the top of this thread :D But they serve a purpose and work remarkably well.
I know people that tow a big trailer with their Toyota's everyday. I'm saying 5-7k lbs, all over the place and never have an issue with trans, but turning heavy tires right there can cause issue's because the trans is constantly working cause it isn't in the right rpm range anymore. So ya, I would agree highly in the new gears dept being a must!

My v6 runner def needs gears running the 35s. on the highway any little hill and she kicks down plus there is a power loss and a 5-10 mpg decrease not to mention the speedo being off by quite a bit. im holding off to see what kind of locker I want either air or elec and do the gears at the same time

santanos I did the e-locker from upgrade and I love it. I picked up the locker for 500.00 and purchased my wiring harness from low range offroad which laid in perfectly. the locker works off of the supplied switch. check out my previous threads I did a write up on it with pics.

Thats def my preferred option but id like to find a hub to hub rear from an fj with the locker already in it but if you got a line on an elocker hey dont be holding out on me

santanos when I was looking for a locker I searched a lot of toyota forums, the blue room, toyota120, ttora, fjnortheasters even Craigslist and eBay. I found mine on eBay it was brand new. hopefully come spring time I'll be ready to buy some overly priced gears which I find rather annoying that they are so expensive especially when you can buy gears for so many other vehicles for half the price.

ttora is a pretty cool forum there was a guy with a tacoma that did the rough country 6" and added a long arm kit to it. a lot of guys had their comments about it but in the end the truck was sick.

Can I get some pics of how you mounted the light bar?

I didnt take any but I just removed the rack cover drilled and tapped the holes in the rack mounts for the mounting brackets that came with the bar then cut holes in the covers slid them over the light bar brackets then bolted the bar to them. Sounds like alot but only took 20 mins

Pretty quiet kinda hear it around 30 and up but not loud. I drilled for the wire but drilled over the sunroof tray so if it did drip it would just run out the drains

Gotcha. I guess I wanted mine a little further forward and I wanted to not drill any holes so I did my way. I still have to trim the caps to fit them back on
