FJ Cruiser Concept

Soooo, I guess an update is in order. I'm on a couple of waiting lists for:

  • Voodoo Blue
  • Manual Trans
  • A-TRAC/Locking Rear

I'm hoping it will only take a couple of weeks... :(

Also, while I'll stay subscribed to this thread, I'll be moving most of my commentary over to:

http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/

Of course, right now, most of the chatter is "Are they at the dealers yet"....

Very cool man. All those pics made me wish I was getting one. Congratulations on you decision. Nice you have your own forum, but you definitely have to give us some the updates over here with the best stuff. Especially pics of yours and pics off any heavily modified FJs. Have fun when you get your new ride.

But, of course!

I went on a test drive in one today! Thing handles great. It was an auto, and not the manual that I want, but it was very smooth. Also MUCH quieter than my Subaru Outback in the cabin. That really surprised me.

The demo rig was in Sun Fusion yellow. I liked it! I saw another Voodoo Blue right before, and while I still like the blue just a bit better, I think I'll update my wait list to say either blue or yellow... I can't wait for mine to come in!

Wow, I am impressed that it was quiet in the cabin. I wasn't expecting that. What kind of tires was your demo equipped with? I can't wait until my local Toyota dealer gets one in because I want to test drive one!

It was NOT the BFG AT's that I would want. The one at the Beaverton dealer that we didn't drive had Bridgestones and the one I drove had Dunlop. Both were "all weather" treads, and not "all terain"...

My dad and I also both test drove an auto-4wd yesterday. Our dealer had 5 up for grabs. silver, blue, black, black cherry, & I forget what the 5th one was. It handled pretty damn good. They had this sweet black one that they added black rims & chrome colored lip with huge tires and it looked so tasty!

We went there mainly to check out T4R & Sequoia for my dad, but the focus was the FJ and he is considering it. Two things I didn't like was the small rear window that was blocked by the tire some. The back seat wasn't the easiest to get into......I wish they would have made a real 4-door or at least added a handle to grab as you get in the back. I did like how big the front seat side windows were. Another plus in my mind was the sliders and the incredible roof rack.

Elmore Toyota also had this sweet portable NAV with a 7" touchscreen that was only $795! It wasn't just for the FJ. This is the route I'd go if I got a new 4runner and try to make it look built in. The biggest advantage for me is being able to then transfer it to my girlfriend's car.

Luxury,
Looking to bump your post count with the multiple hits... ;):

ps. I like the FJ but they haven't hit this part of the world yet.

Opps, how'd that happen? Thanks for the heads up, I deleted the 2 duplicates.

I've got a different Toyota dealer across from my work, so I might go see if they have a manual Tranny in stock for another test drive.

I just test drove the new FJ cruiser today on my way back home from work. I must say that Toyota has done a nice job. Wrangler, Xterra, and LandRover will have one strong competitor. My first impression when I got into the car is that FJ

:iagree: It felt roomy in that respect. One thing to note is I didn't like how the back seat didn't seem to fold completely flat....but I might not have tried hard enough.

I was driving down route 9 today and saw a beautiful silver FJ Cruiser sitting right in front of the dealer. Since I had already passed the entrance to the dealer, I immediately hung a u-turn and went back just to get a closer look at the FJ. The salesman saw me enter the lot in my 4Runner so he immediately greets me and asks me if I needed help. I just told him that I wanted to look at the FJ and really didn't want to waste his time. He proceeded to explain all of the features and give me a complete tour. This was the only FJ Cruiser they had on the lot. It was fully loaded and had a manual transmission. He then offered to give me a ride in it and show me how rugged it is. I took him up on the offer and we went out on a test drive. I was very impressed with the ride. It was extremely quiet in the cabin, seats were comfortable, and the ride was smooth for its class. Compared to my 4Runner, wind noise in the FJ seemed less but engine noise was definitely louder and the ride was much firmer. The only things I didn't like were the sideview mirrors and weird shaped front windshield. It will definitely take some getting used to. The sound system in that truck is also amazing! It was much better than the JBL in my 4Runner. The salesman then started jumping curbs and riding on unpaved roads with it which was great! He really showed me all aspects of the FJ. I never had such a cool test drive! He also told me that he is on the waiting list for a blue FJ Cruiser!

Are you sure you weren't dreaming? Seriously, your experience is about the exact opposite of what I have experienced from Toyota salesmen.

My experience checking out the FJ at Elmore Toyota:
1. We were "attacked" by the salesmen. It was a race who could get to us first.
2. My dad was actually was interested in buying the vehicle.
3. THEY didn't know shit about the product.
4. Asking for a test drive seemed like an extreme burden.
5. The fool handed us off to another guy and didn't even tell us....he just dissappeared and a new person showed up and didn't have a clue what guy 1 was supposed to be doing.
6. We asked for a brochure like 4 times to a variety of excuses....none of which could just be the simple TRUTH....that they didn't have any.
7. It took forever to open all the vehicles.....which when opened had dead batteries or some problem with there dumb aftermarket alarm systems (Seqouias only).
8. Dude, didn't know squat about a T4R.
9. Other dude couldn't tell the difference between a Land Cruiser and a Seqouia to save his life.
10. Parts guy that I've dealt with before was wonderful!

I would never buy from this dealer......ever, because the salesmen were so horrible! Unfortunately I haven't found any that are better. I have high hopes for the Penske dealer across from my work because they are supposidely known for customer service. I sure hope they are good because my experience with Toyo salespeople has been awful everywhere. They are one of the best reasons to buy a Lexus over a Toyota.

Sorry to stray off the FJ topic to salesmen bashing.

I was very surprised as well! This is not the dealer that I bought my 4Runner from either! The guy saw that I knew my stuff about the 4Runner and we just kept chatting about both vehicles. He then told me to wait there and ran into the dealer to get the keys. He asked if I wanted to drive it but I really didn't feel that comfortable driving a stick. It was the BEST test drive I have ever been on!

I'm still not a big fan of the FJ, but figured someone would like the link :)
That is the same one Bill provided on the last page. But thanks anyways for thinking of others, sharp4runr.

I picked her up last Thursday night. I really like it! Drives great on the road, gets tons of looks. It will be perfect for me. Now, on to the pictures:

The FJ does not have near the room of a 4R! I have a 3rd gen and it has far mor room in the back for dogs, sleeping, working, etc. The FJ is wider, but that is it. The reason the FJ has big mirrors is that one cannot see out the back! A complete design flaw. One that might even bring lawsuits in the future. BTW If you are considering a TSX you obviously do not need a truck so you should go with the Acura. $4 a gallon soon will make all nonhybrid, nondiesel suvs a thing of the past.
