FJ Cruiser Rims..

Hey all,

I'm gonna try and get some stock 17" Alloy FJ Cruiser rims for my T4R in the near future, but was wondering if anyone knows if I'll need any spacers or will encounter any other issues with putting those on. I'm looking at (after putting on a 3" lift) those rims and 285-70-17 tires. Whatcha all think?

those wheels have some weird offset so they will be set in more if you do 285s deff gonna need spacers

check the back spacing on the rim that should tell you right there, if it's smaller then the stock 16 inch then yeah you may need spacers with that tire, other wise you should be good with out.

I think the FJC wheels stick out a bit more than the 3rd gen OE wheels. They have a -15mm offset. I think stock 3rd gens have a -22 or -23mm offset:confused: IIRC 4th gen/late Taco wheels are the most tucked in w/ a -30mm offset. The FJC's are the least tucked in w/ a -15mm offset. The stock 3rd gen wheels were in between the two...

Hope I'm not being a pain, but figured I should ask so I understand..

When you mention the offset, what exactly does that mean for the wheels and the wheel-well? I mentioned possibly needing spaces in my first post, but are you talking about the spacers that push the wheels out or lift spacers?

Thanks, everyone! I'm looking at a set of FJ Cruiser wheels that have 265/70/17 tires on them too, but before I go and make the purchase I'd like to know what else I'm getting myself into... :)
 
First, keep in mind that the FJC rims are 17x7.5. So comparing the offset will not be very relevant between the FJC and 16x7 4Runner rims.

Wheel Tech - Offset

Meaning, say that both have a 0mm offset. The FJC rims will still stick in/out 1/4" more than the 4Runner rims. I'd say backspacing is more relevant here. The 4Runners have a 4.625" backspacing. Per a couple of threads on FJ Cruiser forums, the stock 17's are 4.84" backspacing (TRD wheels are 4.75"). About a 1/4" difference. I'd say you'd at least need 1/2" spacer, if not more, to clear 285's. I know there is a guy running 3/4" spacers on FJ Cruiser rims running 285's.

Thanks p nut! I've done a bit more research and now understand quite a bit more of what I'm getting into. So here's my next question:

I don't currently have a lift on my 4Runner but am looking to get one in the near future (OME 3" lift). I'd like to get these FJ rims and put them on with the current 265/70/r17 tires, but wonder if I should just get some 1/2" spacers now to do that or get bigger spacers for the future lift. I've read a lot of people liking the 1.25" spidertrax spacers, but not sure if they'll fit while I don't have a lift on. Also, if I stay with the current tire size of 265/70/r17, will a 1/4" spacer work for the time being? What y'all think?

FJ offset is +15
Gen 4 4R is +30
 
pnut- noticed you have a tacoma TRD double....I'm thinking about selling my 4runner this week and picking up that exact truck. I found an access cab 2006 w/13000 miles for $21,000 and a 2006 double cab TRD, certified w/ extended warranty, 45k miles for $23,000. The access cab is a midwest car, the double is a jersey car. I'm in WI with nasty salted roads.
 
Thanks everyone! I've learned a lot and now understand offsets and backspacing quite a bit more than I did before. I know where to go from here!

Hey Everyone,

Again, thanks for all the replies and helping me out here. I figured it was only fitting that I show the truck with the new FJ Cruiser wheels sporting the 265/70/17 tires for other newbs like myself asking the same question.

These went on without any spacers or problems (except for a wheel that didn't want to come off, see my other thread). It doesn't rub anywhere, and has tons of space all around the tire. These rims are beautiful and were made for the T4R!

And here she is! Sorry, a bit dirty from the snow fall we've had here recently...


 
Looks good I'm glad to hear they went on with no problems as I just bought a set myself and will be putting them on over the wkd. What lugs did you use? Our 4R lugs or the ones from an FJ? I'm not sure if they're the same, but would like to know ahead of time if possible. TIA :guitar2:
 
Wow, those FJ rims look amazing. My GF's going to be needing new rims soon (one set for summer tires and one for winter). I may just look into a set of these for summertime and let the stockers hold the winter tires.

I used my stock lug nuts. They fit just fine.

Just noticed where you're at. I was born/raised there, and moved out here to Colorado!
 
Bumping this thread because I have a question regarding fj rims and 275/70/17's. I'm looking to pick up a set, but I know the backspacing is ~.25" more on the fj rims. I have read that the 17" fj rims only work with 265/70's, but what about 275/70's? Would a 1/4" spacer push the tires far enough away from the UCA? I don't have the cash to invest in spidertrax or any other spacer, but Wheeler's have the 1/4 spacers for $5 a side. Also would I need them for all 4 or just the front?
