I have a 2000 4-cylinder 4Runner and the factory wheel size is 15'' w/ 225/75/15 tires. I've been browsing CraigsList recently and came across an awesome deal for factory FJ Cruiser 17'' alloy wheels w/ 265/70/17 tires.
I got into a discussion w/ my co-worker about them and he told me that it would hurt my gas milege if I used them.
His reasoning is this; since the wheels are larger w/ bigger tires, my engine would have to work harder to spin them because theres more rotational mass.
Also, according to the tire size calculator, I would be going 11.7% slower, when my speedo reads 60 mph, I'm actually traveling 67 mph. How would this affect my MPG?
I'm a real newb when it comes to wheel /tire fitment. So all input is welcome.
