FJ forum

I know nothing about hosting or administering a forum but to get a jump on it anyone willing to start one similar to this great forum we have here for the new FJ?

I'd like to see a new forum for the new FJ and not just lumped into some other Landcruiser forum under their FJ section.

Just a thought, what do you all think. (I know we all have 4runners but I for one will be seriously considering getting one of these)

The FJ is the new Truck by Toyota that will be unveiled next wednesday. It is based on the FJ concept truck which can be seen on the Toyota website. The truck is a take on the FJ40 Landcruiser that was a jeep like vehicle available up until 1984.

I moderate other lists, and belong to several more. Starting a list actually takes a lot of work. This program that creates this forum is available, look for the information at the bottom of this (or any)page.

The lists I own are all email based, so I cannot give you any more info on that. You will need to secure a hosting service and determine how to pay for it.

The biggest issues will come from building the community. There are always several core individuals who create the "personality" of a site. The community takes time to evolve, and sometimes it can "Devo" away from your vision of what you wanted to create. One excellent forum that I love is about dead, simply because of the lack of community: there are really just two of us doing the majority of the postings. (www.vwcabrio.org) Other forums thrive and teem with posters. It just takes time, patience and creativity to promote your forum.

I think you have a fun idea and am not trying to dissuade you; rather have fun and go for it! For myself, please send me a link if you get it running! I would get a kick out of reading something like that!

This is a family issue... my blood makes me respond cause my grandfather LOVED his fj40, had like three seperate alarms on it, no joke... they were stolen non-stop in South America and taken to farms to serve as tractors, where they were obviously never found.

"Back in the 1950's the American Army contacted the Toyota Motor
Corporation with a request for a 4WD vehicle to be used by the soldiers and military police stationed in Japan.
Toyota took the request seriously. The result: the Land Cruiser, a literally
bulletproof vehicle.
All FJ40 Land Cruisers are two door four-wheel drive trucks with removable hard top, doors and fold down
windshield frame allowing for "open-air" driving."

And obviously, in case you haven't heard about it, Toyota is unveiling their remake of this timeless classic next Thursday at 7:15 am PT, which had a concept look like this:

The problem with starting a FJ forum is that you may not have many interest initially. I was lucky because 4runners have been around a long time...YET, this forum started out slow because of the 4th gen redesign. It took a while before the 4th gen owners would GOOGLE this site. This forum also had competitors like Yotatech and 4x4wire. The entrenched owners from those forum did not want to come to a new site, at least initially.

Most old FJ owners are well entrenched in other Toyota forums...and there are not many of them. So, it may take them a while to crawl over to your forum. Of course, the other obstacle is that the new FJ won't be out for a while...so you won't be getting any new owners signing on.

Good luck if you do decide to do it. We will be more than happy to help you out if needed.

Thai.

Thanks for all the comments.

In the time that I have between now and when it is being sold I'll look a little closer at costs and time involved. If things look feasable I'll do it.
