FJ Rims? Why not!

A couple of years ago I read a few threads on how 4runner owners grab FJ rims and put them on their trucks. One day I just happened to be parked next to a tricked out FJ with custom rims. The owner of the FJ walked up just as I got out of my truck so I asked him what he did with the original factory rims. Amazingly, he told me that the weekend he brought the truck home new he replaced the rims. And more amazingly, he was just about to put them on Craiglist for sale. All five of them for 250 bucks!

I bought em all and put them in my garage thinking I might get some snow tires. But two years later the all season tires on my truck finally wore out and I needed four new tires. So I threw the FJ rims in the truck and brought them to the local NTB store where the manager was so pumped up he threw four new Michelin LTX M/S2 tires on the new rims, removed the old tires from the original rims, picked the best of the four tires he removed, mounted that on the fifth FJ rim as the old spare tire was in bad shape, lubed up the spare tire mechanism, and packed all five of the original rims back into the boxes I had the FJ rims in and threw em in the back of my truck. All for the price of mounting the four new tires I bought!

I know this is a duplicate of many previous threads, but I would never have thought of this had I not seen it on this forum. And yes, that is a T4R sticker on the rear side window.

Here's the photo of the tires/rims on my 2004 Limited. Yep, it's a little dark as it is a pretty cloudy day here, but they still look good.

Just keep your eye out for a FJ with custom rims and ask the owner. The guy I asked took them off when he bought the truck and then just put them in his garage for a couple of years. He never got around to selling them and was just about to make the effort when I asked him what he did with the OEM rims.

I'll bet there are a lot of them just sitting in garages because people aren't motivated to make the effort to sell them.

The added benefit is that by making it easy to sell them you may be able to negotiate a good price. I did.

i just got on the fj cruiser forum and got mine, you definitely got them for a steal though. I payed 500 for all 5 shipped to my door they do look good black you should do it, here is mine plasti dipped

FJ Cruiser rims look nice on our 4Rs, plus they push the rims/tires out about 1/2 in to the fenders like spacers do but without compromising safety and added wear.

btw... I have a set of 4 for sale if anyone is local and interested. :thumb:

One more pic in the sun. Previous threads note that the FJ rims push out the tires a bit more than the original OEM rims. They do and it makes the wheels really pop. The pic doesn't do this justice.

Great minds think alike!

I just put my FJC Steelies on this weekend. With the BFG MTs it looks pretty wicked. Definitely shedding its soccer-mom looks!

(ore pics posted in my build thread below)
