FJ Springs and Daystar mod

Still trying to grab all the fj parts to do the mod, but as I was looking into the install I came across this video. Do you guys think its pretty accurate on how to do the front install? I know it isn't meant for this particular mod, but its a lot easier to learn from than written instructions. If it works hopefully it'll help others as well. I've never done this type of stuff so any tips on this mod would definitely be appreciated.

For those that aren't familiar with the mod I'm talking about:
I'm planning on leveling and slightly raising my runner by installing the fj's springs and shocks (price depends on where you get it) as well as some daystars (1in front and 1.5in rear around $40 each). Other members have done this so if you're interested you can search euy's or ark swamp runner's thread.

Well that video is exactly what you need to do for the Daystars right? If you're replacing the front coilovers with FJ coilovers then it's just a matter of unbolting the bottom of the strut as well as the top and bolting up the FJ's, then slapping that spacer on top of the FJ strut ya?

That's what I figured, but not too sure about everything. Hopefully others that have done the mod will chime in. Do any of you know if its the same procedure for the rear if you don't have Xreas?

Yep, assuming you procure the full, assembled FJ struts.

The rear is the same with or without XREAS.


This link is to an older thread but it covers some important points concerning separating the ball joints and taking care with ABS speed sensor wires (on the front). This is not as much of a "how to" as a "what not to do". Read some of Ark_Swamp_Rider threads. He did some great write-ups and provided some great links.

With the video and the reading I suggested you'll be fine. If you are a semi-accomplished DIY guy all of this is within your reach, don't get 'scared'; it's really not that hard. Do get a set of ratcheting box wrenches. That will ease the task of the top strut bolts tremendously. (You can do it without but with Harbor Freight being so cheap, why not?)

The final "things to know" are that FJC front springs have a definite right & left. The rears are not side specific. The last thing to know is that you'll want to have the front struts rotated into the position that provides the best swaybar clearance. Just note the clock position when removing the old ones and then put the new ones in the same way.
