Hey guys,

I have a 2003 non xreas SR5 @ 136,000 miles. Shocks need to be replaced and found a set of 2008 FJ front and rears for 250.00 with 5000 miles.

and another seller which has 2011 FJ Fronts and rears for $300.

Which one should I get? Thanks!

But seriously, DO NOT pay $250 for FJ shocks, you could get brand new Bilstein 5100s for only slightly more (like $300) and Bilsteins are superior, IMO. If you are set on using FJ stuff, go to one of the FJ Cruiser forums and post a WTB ad. I did this and bought low mileage springs AND shocks for $65.

Also, I'm not 100% on this, but I believe you will have to do some modifications to fit the 2011 FJC shocks on your 2003 T4R.
 
 
^What they said. The reason the FJ swap became so popular is due to cost. With the stuff priced at the cost of new, there's no reason to do it. If nothing else, post a WTB ad for springs only, and do 5100's + FJ springs. You can get springs for cheap if you can find them local (shipping is killer).

Any year FJ coils should work (07-11) but only 07-09 shocks are a direct swap. 10-11 shocks will require minor modifications to fit.
 
WOW, thanks for the responses guys! So F the FJ set up and go with the Bilsteins 5100's with the stock T4R springs and cornfed? I just want a nice smooth comfortable ride since I cart my 3 yr old and wife around all the time.

Again, thanks for the help fellas. Ive done my searching, but I just want a quick answer from you!
 
if u do the 5100s u wont need the cornfed spacer since the front billies r adjustable to increase height up to 2.5 in. i love the billies myself but if a closer to stock ride is what ur after , KYB shocks with the spacer might be a better choice.
 
5100's all the way. Take a look at all the FJ springs / 5100 swap info on this site. If you can find the FJ coils for cheap (just bought mine from a guy on the FJ forum for $80) then I'd say do the swap. If not, the 5100's and your stock springs will do the trick. People love putting the FJ coils on our T4R's because it's cheap and you gain a slight lift (most get .5" lift). You can't go wrong with the Billie 5100's though. Good luck

Hey casual,

Check out craigslist (I found mine here... bought it from someone in San Clemente, 100 miles on them for $80) or the FJ Cruiser forums. I received replies within a day. If you are only able to find a set of springs, and want to use FJ shocks, I can give the Tokicos that came with the set I bought for free. I live in Long Beach but I'm in Orange County from time to time. The shocks are for the front. Shoot me a PM if you want them.

From my experience with the 5100's and the Billies, the ride is smooth. It handles way better than stock (My girlfriend owns the same year and model as I do). It feels brand new.
 
As has been stated, that's too much. I got the fronts (spring and strut) for $35 and the rear (spring only) for $30. The 5100's ran me about $330 w/ discount code.

Can't wait to get them on.
 
Ok, Ive havent been on the forums for quite some time, and are these adjustable 5100s new?

I think the 5100s and the stock T4R springs might be the route im taking since im tight on cash. But just to confirm, it will be a close to stock ride even with it set to 2.0 or 2.5?

Anymore info?

casual, the fronts are adjustable. here is the part number that I have installed:

F4-BE5-C475-H1

I'm unsure about the stock T4R springs, but with the FJ springs, I put mine on .85 with no spacers at all. looks level.
 
i ordered mine online at shockwarehouse.com and used a coupon code to get it down to 330+ for the whole set. It took about 2 weeks to get to me because it was backordered.
