FJ to 5th Gen?

I have an FJ and thinking about making a move to a 5th Gen. Love the FJ, but it can be tough getting two kids in and out with doors.

So, has anyone moved from an FJ to a TE or Ltd? Any regrets? Likes or dislikes?

I have moved on from my 2007 FJ into a 2010 4Runner SR5 and do not regret it for a second. I have two children and find the 4Runner much more family frendly without giving up the utility I enjoyed in my FJ. When it comes to experiencing the outdoors the 4Runner is superior to the FJ since you can open all of the windows including the back window. If you like the outdoors you will love the new 4Runner.

i did it too. Love it!

Bigger gas tank = better range
Usable back seats
No blind spots
back up camera, and intergrated Navi...also Bluetooth
Can run regular fuel, no super needed
It's great looking, and I can fit many sets of golf clubs, coolers, and pull cars in the back.

Oh, the rear window goes down and my windshield hasn't cracked in 15 thousand miles...previous FJ went through a windshield every 10k.

Hope you sign up, and enjoy your new ride.

I never had an FJ, but i will say...I intended on buying one when i went to the dealership. I had done all my research, posted on FJ cruiser forum asking questions, found the dealer with the right FJ with the options i wanted. My wife and i drove 150 miles to the dealer to buy the FJ. However when we got there they had a BP sr5 t4r on the lot and we felt we owed it to ourselves to at least look at it, so we did. Was the FJ very cool looking and utilitarian and simple yes. But the t4r just seemed sooooo much more functional and usable. I feel like the t4r is the best of both worlds. The only downside I see to the t4r when comparing to the FJ is a slight decrease in approach and departure angles, and the aftermarket support currently. So for a couple grand more we walked out with the 2011 t4r and couldn't be happier.

I was sitting in a 2008 TT last year, thinking to myself "I should really like this truck... but I just don't" and that ended my lust for the FJ Cruiser. Ten minutes later I was test driving a Limited 5th Gen and a week after that I drove down to Portland to test drive a Trail Edition, and that sealed the deal.

I see a lot of FJ Cruisers on the road around here, and they are pretty trucks, but being behind the wheel was just not enjoyable.

I still drool every time I see a FJ Trail Teams, but the practicality of the 4runner wins this contest hands down for me. Bigger cargo area, real doors all around, and no annoying blind spots sold me!

Seems like a small issue but the small gas tank was a negative for me on the FJ. I need a 400 mi range for a specific drive I do 6 times a year.
lol, I just noticed on the Toyota website the new FJ gets 4R Trail rims.

I also went from a 2007 FJ to an 2011 SR5 no comparison i love my 4Runner back in 99 i purchased my first 4Runner limitted but lost that in a Real fire ,You wont regret getting any 4Runner.....

I had a 2011 TT SE on order, In the months of waiting, (they still aren't avail) one of my trips to the dealer involved my wife and I test driving a t4R. We now own 2 SR5's! I think all the reasons mentioned are exactly what brought me to this truck! It is AWESOME! I think for the few thousand dollars the t4R is sooo much more usable.

I agree the FJ looks cool, but I feel if it is your everyday driver, like it is mine, the t4r kills it.

Hope that helps.

New here as of this morning. Nice to see this thread as I will be trading my 2010 FJ in tomorrow for a new 4Runner. Need the four full doors...otherwise, I love my FJ. Just got it the way I wanted it too!!

If they make a Trail Team 4Runner in the style of the TT FJ, I'll be out a lot of money. I LOVE the TT FJ from 2008. The white and black storm trooper look is badass.

I didn't read through all the replies, so I may be beating a dead horse here, but I traded in my '07 FJ in for my '10 T4R Trail and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT 110% MORE! And for those who know me, I absolutely loved my FJ and it killed me to get rid of it... just shows how much I love my TE!

I have a 17 month old son and the biggest reason for hating the FJ was the damn suicide doors. I'm not tall (5'5") but my husband is, so getting my son in and out in a crowded parking lot was a pain in my side... I think every time I said a few choice words. :)
Also, the lack of space in the cargo area of the FJ for us was a downer once our son arrived. The 4runner has a ton of space in the back- for our crazy 70# Lab or bike trailer or other stuff we haul around.
The T4R is a sharp rig, but I do still miss the funkiness of my bright standout yellow FJ, but that's it.
You won't be disappointed in trading the FJ for a T4R, trust me. My son thanks me for it every day.... well, not really, but one day when he's driving it he will!
:) Good luck!

I thought the FJ was the Truck-for-Me when I first saw it. So functional, so-back-to-basics. But then after test-driving it, it wasn't so functional. Really not-good visibility and a not-good back seat. I loved the manual transfer case shift lever and rear-locking diff but it wasn't enough.
