Also, there's only room for one body-on-frame SUV from the automaker, so the 4Runner will be re-engineered for the 2010 model year, will debut in either New York or Chicago, and the FJ Cruiser will complete its lifecycle and be dropped in the next few years.

FJ is just a homage to the old FJ40 Land Cruisers or something like that. I don't think the FJ stands for anything, at least not officially.

Here's hoping that they'll make a manual available on the 4Runner again. Maybe make a 4Runner FJ edition or something...haha.

From what I gather , yes.

The FJ may be redesigned and reintroduced a few years later who knows , but it seems the 4R is slightly edging back to it's roots with the upcoming intro of the 09 TE. Although the only off road upgrade are shocks , rear locker , 16" tires . 265/70/16 I believe . I have not seen any pics of them though and any other specs.

sucks to hear that. I had a 2007 FJ Cruiser and I loved it.... but I had to trade her in for car that I fell in love with while in college. I was looking forward to getting a 2nd generation FJ Cruiser.

Where would the FJ go next? It's based on a retro design and it's sometimes hard to move to the next gen w/o losing what the FJ is and that's besides competing with the 4Runner itself. If the FJ goes I want to see the 4Runner offered with a manual tranny.

Are you joking that this Fj would be dropped within few years? It is such a lovely car which can even run on rough roads. i was even wondering to buy this car as this one is the tough car. I must say that its one of the perfect cars for me. I am just waiting for it so that I may get some money enough to buy this car.

To make up for the loss of the FJ, Toyota should bring back the 2 door 4runner and call it the FJ edition or something. That might be kinda cool if done right.

I would sell body parts to buy a 2012 2 door 4Runner with a solid front end, a factory locker, and no bells and whistles. I think Toyota could compete with (and do well against, the way the Rubicon is going) Jeep on their own turf if they made up their mind to. Leave the "upscale" market for Landcruiser.

But, it does have the best off-road stock angles of any Toyota, a rear locker with aggressive A-TRAC, and the most suspension travel without the need of additional parts (thus, less issue when you lift it). In addition, aftermarket support is probably the best of any Toyota. So, it ain't half bad.

Yeah, I know, but it's an insult to the classic fj if you ask me. (I just don't like them, and they suck to work on)
