FJ TRD suspension in a 4runner?

Found a great deal on a FJ TRD stock suspension kit. What will the effects of installing it on my 4runner be? Will it lift a bit? Stiffen the ride? to much? any other comments?

What 4runner do you have now??

In all likelihood, it will lift your 4runner a bit (about 1"??), the ride is going to be a tad stiffer (but less floaty).

If the price is good, then get it IMHO.

I say go for it. I don't have the shocks but I have the springs in all 4 corners. I love it! Link in my sigs. Search BlairB too. He has a unique, very cool setup with FJC springs and a 3/1 spacer lift.

Thai or CJ3Flyr, do you think this upgrade would be worth it if I already have XREAS? it's coming off a buddy's FJ trail teams. not sure if it's any different from the TRD version.

I am confident that the springs are worthwhile. What I don't know is if YOU would like XREAS/FJC springs or the struts/shocks off of the FJC. What's the perfect temperature for coffee? The idea that hot coffee is good we can probably agree on. It's highly unlikely we would agree closer than a 5-10degree range.


Either way the setup would be good, very good. If it were me I might put the FJC setup on and sell 4 low mileage XREAS shocks. Two benefits come to mind: 1) Ease of install. Assembled struts are easier than disassembling the strut. 2) Sell the XREAS. Cash in pocket offsets the price paid for the FJC setup. XREAS is great but expensive to replace. Front struts are approx $140ea and rear shocks are approx $155ea I have seen a few posts lately from guys with aging XREAS that, IMHO, would prefer to stick with XREAS but are seeking alternatives due to the high replacement cost.

Thanks for the quick reply. my original plan was to install fj springs on the front (front strut assembly sitting in my garage). The reason i'm asking is that he offered them to me as payment if i help with the install of his new suspension. just wanted to know if it was worth the effort to remove the xreas.

Ok, I get it now. You're the wrench. In that case I'd just do all 4 springs, save the FJC shocks for when the T4R hits 100k and gets an XREAS leak (if it gets a leak). Then you'll have good, free shocks ready to go! You'll get to enjoy XREAS and yours will NEVER leak. Why? You have spare shocks ready to go:bigok:


I mentioned do all 4 springs. I rode with just the fronts for a while. It was good. When I installed the rears (months later) I spent weeks beating myself up for not doing all 4 right away. The FJC springs are great in the back too.

When I removed my xreas I just ripped it out pretty much. It would be a serious pain to fully remove xreas and try to sell it. It'll be in the dump once I get time to get out there. :lmao:

:iagree: about selling the whole system. I was talking about selling the 4 XREAS shocks/struts not any of the plumbing, reservoir etc.:cheers:

i got my fj springs and shocks on ebay for 100.00 shipped. there are the trd bilsteins. i add a 1" spacer. hopefully i will get them intalled soon. i have seen super busy. as soon as iget then on i will post pics.

i would say keep checking ebay or craigs list. they are on there all the time.
