FJ wheels vs. Trail wheels

I wanted to post this simply as a reference for anyone searching in the future. When I was getting ready to purchase my Trail I researched alot to find out if these wheels were EXACTLY the same (backspacing/offset) with the only difference being the color. I read alot of conflicting information, but finally found enough to convince me they were the same. I can now confirm that they are the same. No differences at all.

I thought I'd throw in some pics as well.

Got it now, the Dunlops have a beefier tread. Everything in San Diego had the Bridgestones when I bought. I hadn't seen Dunlop AT as standard yet. Wonder if they are less annoying than the B/stones on CA freeways?

2013 FJ wheels on 2011 TR4 SR5

I just did this swap last week. So far I've had no issues what so ever, they ride and look great, and best of all match the mag grey! Woohooo!

So what is the official official backspace on the TE and FJ wheels ?
Has anybody measured? 4.5" or 4.75" as they are 7 1/2" wide wheels and the Limited and SR5's are 7" wide so it might be different then them.

I personally measured the SR5 and LE wheels at 4.5" bs and the other oems I owned and measured were older style 6 spoke FJ wheels were 4.75" and the 4th Gen Sport wheels were 5.25".

Dunlops suck. When my trail had them, it was the worst riding vehicle I had ever owned. Got my GY Silent Armor and never looked back. Rant over

Define worst riding? Not that I'm a fan of them (itching to get rid of them for some Duratracs) but I have 32k on them and they still have some tread. I haven't really had any issues with them which is why I can't convince myself to ditch them while they still have tread. How long should these last?! What am I missing or can I expect?

Well ,here's the reviews for the the Dunflop AT20's on Tirerack with 17+million miles worth reviewed and they are 5th from the bottom rating a 2.6 out of 10 and the Bridgestone Duelers(not sure which model Dueler is on the 5ths) fare about the same. Consumer Survey Results By Category

I'm not saying that they're good tires by any means, I was just curious as to ride quality compared to other tires members have switched to. I did read the reviews previously on tire rack but was interested more in specific 5th Gen experiences. Personally I haven't had any issues in rain or snow, the traction is not superb but I haven't slid through any intersections either. Any idea how long they'll last before I can justify the purchase from a safety point rather than an aesthetic/performance point? (Not trying to hijack the thread, just wanted someone to expound on the immediate need to drop a grand)

Why does Toyota use them when they are so poorly rated? Just for MPG statistics?

Drop a grand?! I spent $600 cash for a set of 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Graplers and got $450 the next day for the Bridgestones. I'l spend $150 for a set of tires I like and trust.

I knew I wasn't going to stick with whichever one mine came with from the factory. Part because I had read the reviews and also because I had a set of the Nittos on my last 4Runner and I liked them alot. Also, I knew I could sell the Bridgestones pretty quick as a brand new set. So they came off at 35 miles.

To answer the question about the offset, I haven't measured yet so I can't answer if they are 4.75, but I will check it out the first rotation.

I have 35k miles on my Bridgestones and I've been reasonably happy with them. Good mileage, fine in the snow, quiet, and predictable. I'll go with something more off road worthy when I need new tires because I'm not daily driving the 4Runner anymore. I'm willing to compromise noise, comfort, and economy when I'm only doing 4000 miles a year on it.

I had them for 2500 miles, I believe. No traction in rain or snow. They gave the vehicle a terrible bounce/front dip. The moment I was stuck on a patch of ice on a very small incline, I realized that I cannot afford to keep the tires on any longer...for my safety and my family's safety. The only good thing about those tires were the lack of rolling resistance it gave the vehicle. I have never been able to duplicate the MPG that i had with those.

The SR5, Limited and Trail/FJ wheels all have the same offset: +15mm (as confirmed by the stampings on the inside of the wheels). While the Trail/FJ wheels are wider, and the backspace is greater (~4.85"), the wheel/tire centerline is placed in the same spot relative to the wheel hub across all three models because of the same offset.

In addition to wheel width, backspacing is also dependent on the rim contour/bead profile, which can vary from wheel to wheel. Ultimately, backspacing comparisons between different wheels is like comparing apples to oranges and far less intuitive. I would much rather compare wheel offsets and difference in tire widths to get a sense of where the new wheel/tire combo will sit relative to the stock setup. Just my 2 cents.

anyone with an extra trail wheel?

Unfortunately I didn't read this thread until today after I'd already received a wheel from Santa Ana Wheels. I'm looking for a 5th wheel (2011 Trail) for bumper mounted spare. The wheel I received from Santa Ana was a different color which led me to this thread.

So... anyone with an extra Trail wheel for sale? Or recommendations on where to buy 1? I was fortunate to pick up a full set locally for my snow tires but finding just 1 has been more challenging.
