17 inch (stock) to 18 inch wheels

Want to ask if anyone has moved from 17 inch (stock) to 18 inch wheels with the idea of using 265\70R18 tires?
I would like to have a taller tire (33 inch) but would like to minimize negative impacts that are normally associated with 285\70\R17 tires (weight, increased rolling resistance, drop in mpg, etc.)

With 265\70R18 tire I am keeping the stock width (265) and at the same time have less unsprung mass vs going with 285\70\R17.

Based on my research my current wheels (2013 Trail stock wheels) are 17 by 7.5 with 15mm offset and are about 28-29 lbs. (depending on what website info I am looking at).
The only factory 18 inch wheel that has specs that are close to stock is the wheel from Lexus GX460 (18 by 7.5, 30-31 Lbs), but that wheel has 25mm offset… so unfortunately that would push wheels inside of the wheel well -not good for stability (and looks)…

Any info \thoughts\wheel choices are appreciated.

You could stay on 17's and go with 255/80R17 (33.1"). Going up in wheel size is going to add overall weight to the package. Lots of offroad oriented tires are offered in that size. Assuming you offroad, why not stay on 17's and enjoy the benefits of larger sidewalls?

There's also 255/75R17 if 32.1" is acceptable to you.

Fun fact: 265/70R18 is one of the available tire sizes on the new Land Cruiser 250, and likely the upcoming 4Runner.

I knew about that fact "265/70R18 is one of the available tire sizes on the new Land Cruiser 250" and that was actually one of the reasons I started looking into 18 inch wheels idea.
I know that a lot of off road tires are offered in 17's, however AT tires I am looking at (including Toyo open country A/T III as a first choice) are available in 265\70R18 as well.
I also believe that with time, we will see a lot more tire manufacturers going with 18" inch tires that are off-road oriented, just like it happen before with 15, 16 and 17 inch wheels.

I would like to stay with P (SL) rated tire for the same reasons I mentioned, and I know a lot of people would say that P rated AT is not for true off-road but it worked for past 25 years for me (towing boat and varies trailers, hunting, moderate trails in New Mexico (Moab) and Colorado, sky trips, etc.) . I have tried 255/75R17 (P rated) in the past and did not like lateral stability with those, I am sure LT would be better, but looks of them was not good either with stock wheels.


And yes, my 4Runner is lifted.

Trying to stay P-rated on certain 33's may be the kicker to going 265/70R18 like you say. I totally get the strategy. My 2023 ORP is on P265/70R17 Wildpeaks myself, intentionally. Tons of people here have lots of wheeling time on P's without problem, and I appreciate how well they drive on the road, where I do 95% of my driving.

I agree, offroad tire makers are definitely going to have more and more sizes with larger diameter wheels moving forward. It's not a trend I like, but it's the trend. Happens with cars too of course. I have a 2019 Miata on 16" factory wheels. A lot of tires I would like are only offered in reasonable diameters on 17" wheels (which higher trims came with), limiting me.

2024 Tacomas may have good 18" designs for takeoffs. The outgoing 2023 Tacoma Limited has 18's. I'm a big fan of buying OEM takeoffs rather than aftermarket wheels. Outgoing GX is also on 18's on some trims.
