FJ Wheels...what's the biggest tire you'd run?

I'm in love with these:

Stock FJ black steelie...17"x7.5".

The problem, as I see it...I'm not sure how good I feel about a 35x12.5 on a rim 5" narrower. I know in general, an 8" rim is the minimum...what do ya'll think?

This would be for my DD/WW 1st-gen (84). Before you ask what the hell I need 35's on a DD...I don't commute...so I don't rack up many miles.

I've run 10.5s on 6" wide rims for years and never had any problems whatsoever. I also ran 35/12.5s on 8" wide rims on my '72 Blazer for years. Again, never ANY problems. In both cases they were 4.5" narrower, and ur going a 1/2" narrower than that. I know guys that run 16.5" Boggers on 10" wide rims with no problems and that's a 6.5" difference. IMHO you should be ok.

If it bugs you, run a 285/75/17. Roughly an inch shorter and in some cases just as tall. I think you'll be fine with a 12.50" though.
