That is a major manufacturing/design flaw! I can see another class action suit with this one.

However, a few people on there complained about thin sheetmetal which is the "in thing" nowadays among new cars. Manufacturers are concentrating on crush zones and frame work, while cheapening the sheetmetal to save cost.
On the older Jeeps, i hear stories of rock chips and so on, but never a class action suit.

As pointed out by one of the members on FJ forum:
"Was reading the July 2007 issue of Automobile magazine (automobilemag.com) and they have an article called Upshift, 4 Seasons Wrap-Up. From what I can tell they kept it for a year to check it out. They casually list the following item as a non-warranty out-of-pocket expense. 18,213 miles - replace windshield $1262, Later in the article they actually state that they replaced it TWICE, the second time it was off the road for a month waiting for a replacement. "Not Good" was their comment.
This article begins on page 134 if it helps document this problem."

"I walked out to my garage about three weeks ago, ready to go to work, when I saw a crack in my windshield. It is on the driver's side and eminates from the seal with the body. It wasn't there when I drove home the night before and the temperature was not above 92 or below 62. I have had my FJ since March and I find that this kind of breakage is not caused by driving habits. I would entertain the notion of a breakage being caused by materials failure, etc, and if so, the defect should be rectified."
So, i don't think that this issue is due to the angle of the windshield, but rather that Toyota is using a more fragile (aka cheaper) windshield to save cost. To be honest, if i had to shell out $1200 every 20k miles or less, i would be freaking piss!! And Falls, i am sure that YOU will be too.
The more that i read these stories, the more i see that many of the cracks originate at the BASE of the windshield. So, you gotta wonder whether the windshield is so weak that structural bend or shock or even weather changes can cause the crack.

Agreed , I still consider it an issue and hopefully they rectify it for those who have the problem and for future buyers. By the shape of the windshield I can see where it would cost so much .
It would in no way prevent me from buying one. Every vehicle has it issues , if there was a perfect quality 4x4 out there , we'd all own one.

Here we go again...
Remember back when the 4Runner first came out? There were many owners complaining about cracked windshields. By 2005 Toyota began putting thicker windshields in the 4Runner.
A sign of a company that cares is... learning from it's mistakes. Come on Toyota...show us you care.
