What's up all? Trying to put together a get together for the southwest people. This is for all Toyota enthusiasts, Tacomas and 4Runners play nice together. I've got this posted over at TacomaWorld also. Anyone interested, just reply to the thread even if you can't make the first meet.

Thanks for the heads-up and post. I'm on the Southeast side (Fort Lauderdale area) so won't be able to make it but if the group decides to put a weekend group thing together with advanced notice I'd try my best to make it.

What good places are around Miami area for some light off roading, never been a off road guy or done that, but now that I got my 4r I may go for some trips with the family..

I have heard of lost lakes, but is that legal? is 4x4 mandatory there?

I have seen some videos of "everglades trips", but where is that?

There really isn't much unless you like deep mud or hydrolocking your engine. If you like exploring there are some canal trails off of Tamiami in the Everglades. Not much more then gravel roads but it has nice scenery. Big Cypress has Trails but you need a permit ($100 for the year) and probably a snorkel. The closest definite is Lazy Springs off road park just outside of Naples. I have some pictures in the thread on my signature. Ocala is probably your best bet although it is a 4 hour drive. Just be mindful that you will likely come home with some pinstripes.

If you haven't already I would join the Florida 4runners Facebook group. It's a bunch of good people and there are often trail rides and events posted although most are in Central Florida. Here are some pics below from our rides 2 weekends ago. We did a weekend camping and trail riding trip at Juniper Springs in Ocala.

Thanks for the info cymon, the one you mention about Tamiami is the "loop road" ?
I have read about Big Cypress and about Lazy springs, the latest one I read is more 2wd friendly. thx

Loop road is one of the Everglades trails, but I haven't been on it yet (although I would love to check it out sometime). There are also some canal trails on the North Side of Tamiami trail, you just have to pick one of the canal crossover roads and you can drive perpendicular to Tamiami but on gravel. You can also go on top and take other canal roads to explore. These are usually used by people going out fishing.

Yup. There are also plenty of cut overs well before the casino. I found them just using google satellite view.

I do not want to do any hard core off roading, since this is my only everyday vehicle (except for Mt bike), but would like to take a training course. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Search YouTube, there are a number of videos that can start you off. I went to an off-roading course in Pennsylvania where they taught us how and when to use all of the options but it’s hard to explain without being out there to use it. Also search on the 5th gen section for some more help (ie google search “5th gen t4r crawl control”.

Basics: crawl control = off road cruise control
Multi-terrain = using traction control to manage wheel slip based on terrain.

Mark here with a '13 LE. I live in Port Charlotte/North Port area, about 45 min south of Sarasota. Truck isn't much for offroading since it's 2WD, but I'd love to meet up with some folks and make some friends.
