Flagstaff to Newport, RI in the Unicorn

Just left Phoenix airport in a shuttle to head to Flagstaff to pick up the car I have always wanted! After months and months of looking, I finally found a 2009 Limited V8 4x4 in white

The plan is to go see the Grand Canyon and then stay the night in Flagstaff before driving to Tulsa, OK (my hometown) for the 4th and then on to Newport early next week.

If anyone has interest in following the trip, standby!

I am also looking for suggestions along the way. I love bbq, craft beer and wilderness.

Lots of beer in Flagstaff. I like Dark Sky just because they make lots of really weird small batches. There's also Historic, Mother Road, Lumberyard, and others.

Don't miss Hops on Birch. They're not a brewery, just a good craft beer bar.

Have dinner at Diablo Burger in downtown Flag.
 
Thanks for the tips. There is a fire on the way up to Flagstaff right now.

What is a good place to stay right in the heart of the bars and restaurants?
 
Most definitely, and the Weatherford and Monte Vista would be my first choices. I was up in Flagstaff a couple of weeks ago and couldn't get reservations.
 
Well after an 8.5 hour drive from Phoenix due to 17 being closed due to a fire, I just missed the dealership closing so I got a room at the Monte Vista and had a good burger at Diablo. All great recs!

I am hoping to pick up my unicorn this morning and be up to the Grand Canyon by mid day. Met a local at Hops on Birch last night that gave me some suggestions.

All very good recommendations. I really enjoy Flagstaff.

That fire was burning a few weeks ago when I drove through there and traffic was a mess on I-17. I would recommend going through Payson next time.

I'm in Grants on I-40 if you need any help. Not much here though. There's some pretty good breweries in Albuquerque though. Nexus, Turtle Mountain, Marble are all really good. My favorite is Nexus though.
 
Made it to Tulsa for Independence Day weekend. The Grand Canyon was absolutely amazing. Probably one of the coolest things I ever ever seen. I will be planning a trip back to float the Colorado. Wish I had more time to do a helicopter tour.
