Here is the finished product... I like it...kind of hard to tell in the pics, but the wheels are powder coated flat black, the front grill insert is flat black and now the rear matches the rest of the once chrome trim. Whatcha think?

Indeed, everybody out here thinks it's the Packers...have to point out the colors. You can't see it in the photo but my 2 yr old has a UGA carseat. Wife and I both graduated from GA so gotta represent in Montana.

nice

i like the look of the flat black and still keeping the outside rim of the grill with some chrome. if you don't mind me asking.....how much did that home mod set you back?

The wheels I had powder coated flat black, that was 70/per mounted and balanced. The rest was just some flat primer, flat black rustoleum paint and some matte clear. I put sanded the pieces down, 3 coats of primer, 2 coats of paint and 2 coats of matte clear. The hardest part was getting that back piece off.

So all in all, maybe 80 bucks including the wheels which took a week. They had to ship them to oregon to be dipped and coated. I had loaner wheels in the mean time.

I think it really toughens up the truck...I had a guy park next to me w/ a black T4R asked me if that was a special edition. My first attempt at "customizing" a vehicle and I'm very happy w/ the results. The front piece has held up to 20 below temps and plenty of sand on the road.

:bigok: That looks so good! Athens is a great town, lived there for a couple of years flying for a charter/freight company based there.

As LBeard87 pointed out the outside perimeter of the grille still being chrome looks just right...

The blackout headlight mod like FroSheezy and others have would finish it perfectly IMHO:D

montanaT4R,

You didn't want to paint the the entire grill Titanium Metallic for a color keyed grill?

I have the exact truck in the same color, but mine is a V6.

Shave the emblems on the side of the door & it'll look better.

So how did you paint the rear garnish? Did you remove it or did you just mask the tailgate?

I removed it... Not an easy task...had to pull the inside panel and unscrew about 6 extremely hard to reach bolts. Wouldn't look as good if i had masked it.

check out montana's first post on removing the back... itll show you how hard the task is.

Oh by the way Montana, did you have to rip the plastic in the back to get it off, notice any water or anything from rain or snow?

I did have to cut the plastic sheeting...no water or snow. I taped it up as best I could. Not really sure what's it's purpose is...but hopefully my crappy tape job won't do any damage

That 4runner looks tough as heck. Nice home mods for
sure.

Im rocking a silver and black thing on my magnum so I like the combo.:) :)

i guess im alone here...but other then the wheels....i think it looks awful. sorry. you did a great job from what i can see of doing it...but i just dont like the look. a color keyed grill would have been a better touch...i wonder if its just cause nothing else is black on your ride so it kind of stands out? darken up the windows, do the headlights and it may look better??? i dont know.

rims look good though. i may end up doing that eventually.

x2. The only way I can tolerate it is on the black 4Runners. White is the next one, but it still slightly bothers my eyes. It's something I wouldn't do. I guess I'm just one of those attracted to chrome kind of gals! It's shiny, lol.

However, massive points for the good job. It doesn't look "homemade", very professional and clean. Another attractive personalized 4Runner. Congrats!!

Looks great. I agree that the debadging will make a great enhancement. It's tough to paint the chrome front grilles and have the color keyed paint stick. You can easily blackout your own headlights too. Makes a huge difference. I just did it this past weekend and it's awesome.

I love it man, it looks really great.

If I had a silver t4r I would be do the exact same thing after seeing your final product!
