Left work a little while ago and the driver-side side mirror seems 2 no longer be locked in place by the spring mechanism. Can i replace that part?

I just had to deal with this recently. Check the bottom three screw mine was loose and causing the housing to fold back easier.
If this isnt the case your pin is broken and the housing needs to be replaced.

There are few places it can come loose. There is a Phillips bolt if you look through the hole located at the bottom of the mirror housing. Remove it and take the mechanism with the glass out (lift or tilt) and inspect what is loose/broke.

I've had to replace my driver's side mirror. The pin or the detent inside actually breaks. I used black shoe goo applied with the caulking nozzle to secure the old one before I replaced it. It holds up fine, just doesn't fold anymore. I had to replace because I need it to fold over in tight spots on trails.

If the screws are tight then the housing is broken. If your time is valuable then just replace the the whole mirror. Not worth getting into an arts and crafts project.

Both mine were loose, I took the passenger side apart a replaced the foam around the inside of the housing, between the mirror and mount. It ended up being a ton of work stripped a screw... Blech. Cost maybe $20. That's why mine was loose, that weather strip type foam breaks down. No amount of tightning those screws will fix when that's what's up.

Driver side, I tied a slip knot to make a loop with some poly string about as thick as butcher twine, tied it tight as hell in the gap between the mirror and mount.. shoved it in snug. Took 2 minutes and $.02.



Now both are snug. Fwiw.

You can take it apart, but its an absolute pain in the ass to put back together if you "undo" the spring. You'll also have to cut and then soder the wires, so it might be easier to just get a new mirror.
