As the father of a teacher I’ll take a minute to remind everyone that teachers buy school supplies for their classrooms due to being underfunded now. Do you really think Glocks will be in the future budgets?

There has never been a member of the NRA commit a mass shooting.. also the anti-nra democrat is usually the poster boy for mass shootings.
I recall here in Texas last year an NRA member who taught safety courses stopped the mass murderer in sutherland springs.
I think of it less as this all powerful monster and more of just representing the people who support it, law abiding gun owners

Their tip line gets over 2k calls a day from people that think the Arab guy at the gym they go to is a terrorist. No question, that was a legit **** up. But be real. Every shooting since Columbine was a nut behind a gun. The police and FBI dropped the ball big time on this. The parents dropped the ball. Gun control under Obama or the fear of it caused a surge in gun and ammo sales. Keep bashing each other in this thread...it just shows how we have become. Bump stops and dropping AR 15 from sales will do nothing except make people think they are safer.

This is the exact mindset that leads to zero progress......except perhaps for the part where you admit fear, anxiety, and hallucination among gun owners who need AR’s and large magazines to “defend against tyranny and oppression”. Red Dawn was just a movie.

Stop blaming the guns, look at movies, video games, rude kids, rude parents, no respect for authority...loss of family and religion. its a society issue not the gun. Tougher laws and closing loop holes i am in favor of, but its not going to stop everyone. Its a different world, I was working in Europe in the early 90's and was shocked to see armed police in Italys train stations.... guess what we need now...the same thing, we need to change with the times. You feel more comfortable flying now?

To change the “culture” you would literally need censorship in media, including news media, killing free speech that promotes violence and guns as entertainment. Video games and moves today are literally the “programming” we get, it desensitizes us to violence. You can’t have that hypocrisy in the message and expect results.
I agree the problem is larger than just guns. But if you tried to get the creative types in Hollywood to change they would adamantly object, as they should as it’s a violation of the 1st.
Don't expect a "culture" change any time soon.

Good morning fellow 4runners. I'm new here, actually here one day, but a returning member after I dropped off the deep end and traded my 2002 runner for a Jeep Wrangler. Son now has the Jeep and I now have a new 2013 4runner Limited.
I managed to read about 6 or 7 pages of the varying points of views on the Florida shooting and then just skipped to the last page so I could reply. So if I'm stating anything that has already been stated from pages 7-17, please accept my apology. I heard numerous points of view that I totally agree with, and then some that I don't see as feasible solutions.
I'm retired federal law enforcement, baby boomer, moderate conservative, southern baptist born and raised in East Texas. So, with that being said don't presume or speculate what my position is on this issue. In high school I drove a pickup with a gun rack mounted on the rear window, and it was loaded with a shotgun and a .22 rifle.
THAT WAS THEN, BUT THIS IS NOW. TIMES ARE DIFFERENT, GENERATIONS ARE DIFFERENT, SOCIETY IS DIFFERENT.
For me, and I'm sure I will have some negative responses to this, but I see the solution or response as a three legged stool
Leg 1. Gun control: While working on my Criminal Justice degree I did a research project on gun control for the state of Massachusetts. My results showed that after gun control was implemented, homicides with firearms decreased tremendously. Homicides with edged weapons and others, increased tremendously. I own several weapons and support the right of citizens to own weapons and the ability to protect themselves, BUT I have unfortunately come to the conclusion that we may need to limit or restrict average citizens under a certain age, or any age, from purchasing or owning high capacity weapons and limit their use to law enforcement and military.
Leg 2. Mental illness: I think there should be more management put into those with documented mental illness. There is NO CURE for mental illness or disabilities, you can only manage and maintain. I know this personally having a 23 year old son with Aspergers who refuses to take any meds or go to counseling.
Leg 3. Campus safety: After 9/11 I was dispatched to the DFW International Airport to assume security of the entire airport with whatever resources were available. We did not ban airplanes or implement plane control after 9/11. We HARDENED THE TARGET. Unfortunately we are in a day and age, much like Israel and other countries, where seeing heavily armed guards or law enforcement at places of worship and learning is the norm. I think there should be more thought into hardening the target at schools, eg: fences with razor wire and one entry/exit point that is staffed with professional armed security, access ID badges required, visitors check in/out log, etc.....,
This is not and should not be a political issue. It is an American issue, a parent issue, and a society issue where we all collectively have to decide what proper course of action to ensure safety at our schools, churches, theaters, concerts, malls, ......, all of which are open public soft target rich environments.
I am in the business of protecting highly visible VIP's, which includes extensive security screening and vetting. I have to remind people every day that security is a necessary inconvenience.
Thanks for allowing me to offer my perspective on this current issue of concern and I do offer my prayers and condolences to those victims of yet another American tragedy in Florida.

Well said, besides the gun control part. Banning high capacity magazines and weapons will only turn law abiding citizens into criminals. This has NOTHING to do with the weapons, and EVERYTHING to do with the individual. Like you said, stats showed crimes went down with guns, but up with knives. If there's a will, there's a way. Our society has gone to shit because we have let it go to shit. Look at the stupid crap millenials idolize on TV everyday. It's ridiculous, to say the least.

There is no link between video games and school shootings. Sorry but some folks thinking a link exists doesn't make it true.
Here's a link between the violence and shooting... the kid killed small animals for fun and sounds like a complete sociopath. He was also on the school shooting team.
