He has some courage, He was a beloved billionaire that could be retired on an island, but instead he gave that all up to be hated and ridiculed nonstop, He already gave up his life for America, I have no doubt he would have given it up for those kids.

I love my country but I think I would probably just have bought a few thousand acres in the rockies or Wyoming and disapeared.

Ah yes, the incredibly brave man who watched a person nearly bleed to death while he worried about his marble floor.

I was paying attention, I read the part about you shooting I assumed you carried. I know it's not about CC.
My post was about the fact LE and laws are not the cure all, so why should there be more laws to restict our freedom. When LE does'nt do their part to protect us. Sorry I did'nt make that clearer.

As for "vague incident" don't be sorry I'm not I like living.

multiple people replied to you

the main issue with your post is that you are establishing a false dichotomy where the options are A) "freedom" or B) no guns

unless i missed it early in the thread, no one here is calling for a ban on guns. it is not either/or.

what gun regulations do you think are reasonable, 96RedRunner? Are you okay with background checks for all purchases? What about raising the age for long guns to 21? Treating large capacity magazines like NFA items?

Go ahead and throw out what gun restrictions you think make sense

trump, for example, suggests banning bump stocks and raising the age to buy a gun to 21. marco rubio thinks there are enough votes in congress to raise the age to 21 and says it's the right thing to do, he is open to considering magazine size restrictions, and he wants to create legislation for law enforcement gun restraining orders. are those reasonable to you?

I agree with you there, Law Enforcement is not the cure all and there were definitely some failures in this case. most of what I have been suggesting I have thought were good ideas for about a decade and a half, not specifically because of this shooting.

the gang stuff was a few decades later

nnnnope, the gang stuff came with industrialization and massively increased immigration which really began from Europe in the 1880's think of a world, for example where there were signs in windows in downtown Boston that read "No Irish allowed" you're just thinking about Al Cappone etc which was after the turn of the century, but he wasn't the first gangster and gangs and organized crime was very much here before prohibition.

the spitzer article i link cited examples of state law that mention individual violence, the automatic weapon laws (first in 1927) were the first that mention gangs. i'm aware that gangs existed, but they did not seem to influence gun laws themselves until later.

regardless, the point is that things weren't doing well when people carried, they had rising gun violence and that's why the laws were passed. this was not a polite period.

that's 30 years after the period I am referring to, also just because it was the first mention of gangs in that article doesn't mean there weren't gangs before that, come on man, really? Ohh 1927 was the year the movie Gangs of New York took place again gangs and organized crime were here in the 1880's and the 1890's were called the polite 90's because of the widespread popularity of weapons like the derringer.

you said it was peaceful, i posted a link to a good resource showing that it was not peaceful

gun laws were being passed in response to growing gun violence during the time you are calling peaceful, i think you are getting confused about the point

(gangs of new york is set not too long before your "polite" time period)

Background checks for all purchases. Tell me how LE could enforce that?
Stopping back alley sales is impossible.
Have no problem with raising legal purchase age on firearms. Would be easy for LE to implement. Back alley still going to happen.
Hi-cap mags, that gets deep. For mag fed guns hand and long would require redesign at maker, do away with doublestack auto pistols, make the AR style with a blind mag well like a bolt gun. Again how would LE enforce this, by confiscating all pre ban guns that are out there? Molon Labe.
Bump Stocks, Do not speed up cycle rate much based on a semi auto
design limit. To me thats just fluff talking points of the day.
There is a law on the books now, I forgot the name, where LE could have
picked Cruz up for syc-eval based on what they knew about him. Why did LE
and School Admin fail these kids? By not using laws on the books.

So all in all what good are laws and more laws that are not enforced or common sense not used when it takes freedoms away from law abiding citizens. Once the GOV takes things away you never get them back. It's a slippery slope, Why not hold lawbreakers accountable for their actions including LE and School Admin.

I would be ok with banning bump stocks in exchange for suppressors to be non-nfa items but that is about it. I regularly dump a 30 round mag on a pack of hogs... need moar rounds.

I like your trade for suppressors!
Yep nothing like dumping a 30 on a pack of hog vermin, ha.
Have you done the chopper hog hunt yet? With a 30 it's a whole lotta fun,
I fumbled a mag out the door one time, damn.

Why not actually follow the laws we have on the books? because it isn't about that, or the lives of these children or preventing future children from dying. IT IS ABOUT GUN CONTROL plain and simple.

The left absolutely hates ME, and everything I stand for. They attack people like me in this forum and everywhere else. I was a democrat until I couldn't take the hate any longer. They do not want me to have a gun because it is what allows me to have an opinion and voice that goes against the group think.

It isn't about hunting it isn't about hobby, it isn't an obsession with guns(I don't even own a single gun) it is about keeping my freedom.

The great news is tragedies like the parkland shooting can be prevented by enforcing laws we already have, using single entry points, and not ignoring kids when they tell you a crazy guy is about to shoot the school up.

no... look this up before you post hey? Gangs of New York was set in 1927 (that's why I brought it up). I am not here to teach history lessons. learn this on your own then report back. your link was not at all on topic or addressing what I was talking about.

You're talking about the Leonardo DiCaprio movie? It was definitely not set in 1927. Have you seen it, it's not remotely in that time period. It's a 2002 movie based on a 1927 book about real events that happened in 1863 (the NY Draft Riots, so it has to take place during the civil war). What a strange thing for you to be insistent about.

The idea that people peacefully carried guns in the past is a myth, the idea that we used to have no gun control is a myth. The link explains those things.

I'm not looking to get my Reality check from a bunch of Kids in Florida........they do not have the experience to set the Law of the Land. What they DID experience was the sad event of being assaulted by a KNOWN and documented nut-job who was given a pass to commit this by the COMPLETE and utter failure of those who have demanded law abiding Citizens give up Rights in the name of safety. These Kids should forget *****ing at the NRA and turn their ire to the Police and FBI who allowed this tragedy. The NRA nor Republicans wanted or condone this psycho's behavior. The BUCK has to stop with those who were given the power BY the People to stop these events from happening and failed through what appears to be total incompetence and apathy. The Media can humor these Kids....but if they want a pound of flesh, seek it where the blame for this event lies, with the Police and law enforcement. Given the fact the World is what it is, some of these Kids will grow up and find themselves seeking gun ownership.

What about shooters that are never reported? What about the dozens of kids who are shot or the 7 kids that die from guns each day?

High capacity magazines would be phased out, you would set 3 dates in the legislation. The first date is when they can no longer be manufactured, this would be soon after the legislation passed. The next would be the date they must stop being sold, maybe up to 1yr later. The 3rd date would be the last date they are legal to possess without registering similar to NFA item, maybe 3-5 years

I was trying to figure out where you came up with this utter nonsense, then I figured you must have seen a movie and declared yourself an expert. there were gangs and gang and organized crime activity well before 1927, which is the point I have been trying to get across to you. also the period of the 1890's in the upper classes was in fact quite peaceful and not a trigger for any new laws, this is well known and very, very well documented. so the idea that people peacefully carried guns is not at all a myth in regards to gun control that has been around since before the civil war... but I thought everyone knew that. if you go back to my original response I was trying to contrast what was being discussed the activity going on in the 1880's in the very rural "wild west" with what was going on in east coast cities in the 1890's... there hopefully that clears things up.

One sec, let me just go invest in some gun manufacturers real quick. Are you trying to sell a shit-ton of guns? Because that's how you sell a crazy amount of guns over a short period.

You've got me totally lost trying to follow your point, but thank you for googling gangs of new york?
