FM stereo reception

With a mast antenna one would expect exceptional reception.

I at first thought that the antenna might not be connected so I unscrewed it. It did make a difference.
Mine was fine until I put on the craven speed stubby (now it sucks) but then again so does FM radio.

I love my mast antenna! I get radio stations I never did with my last SUV mast ant. Don't live in such an urban area, nice to have choices besides the really local station. I do have XM but sometimes like to hear what is going on in the world.
Some people think the mast is the end of the world, guess I just don't get it, or have more important things to be concerned about in life.
It sucks - it is horrible. I can't believe I am looking at that stupid mast and can't get better reception than I get.
My other vehicle gets much clearer radio and much better reception. In areas where we loose reception the 4runner looses it miles ahead of our other vehicle.
Just haven't gotten around to see what the heck can be done about it

So the consensus is ... No consensus!
I doubt that complaining to the dealer will do any good since the radio does work.
So I will just have to get an aftermarket radio. I browsed the aftermarket stereo thread, but those guys are way to advanced for me. I just want a radio that will bring in my favorite stations. Anyone have any suggestions for the best FM in an aftermarket radio?

Hi,
I just did a comparison between my 1998 and 2010. I was wrong that the FM reception was worse in the 2010. The problem is that the audio is better and so the noise caused by hills seems worse. When I turned down the treble in the 2010 the radio gave about the same response as my 1998.
