Foam piece by radiator

Recently I noticed some rust starting to form on my crossmember under my radiator. I removed all the foam to wire wheel and paint. It looks like the foam was trapping salt and other things leading to the corrosion. Has anyone ever replaced this with neoprene rubber or another product?

yeah, i found the same. i just ripped it out years ago and continue to soak it with Fluid Film.

I was wondering what the purposed of that foam thing was in the first place?

I guess I will take it out next oil change.

Is it to reduce any vibration and or air seal so all air passes thru the radiator and not around?

I have no idea what it was for. Noticed mine was starting to come loose. Pulled it out and saw that it was causing some rust behind it. Fluid Filmed the area also.
