fog/driving lights

so what are all the different brands i know the major ones piaa, kc, hella. but what else is out there i hate paying for brand names. also what can you expect with like a set oh hella 500, 55w are the way brighter then your stock lights can you see way further. please coach me on what it all means:bash: :awais:

I really like IPF lights. They are really good quality. I've had other brands like Narva, KC and other cheaper stuff and they have not lasted long at all. The reflectors are lousy and start to bubble and flake and plastic components fade and crack after a year or two.
My IPF's have 130W bulbs so they really light up the road. (I wouldn't bother with any bulb less than 100W)The housings are all metal and the wiring is heavy duty. Its hard to see in the pic but one light has a spot lens and the other has a spread beam lens. This combo gives a good mix of long distance and immediate area illumination.
I personally don't like fog lights on 4wds unless they are mounted close to the ground (in which case they get smashed when offroad). The tiny amount of extra light they produce in addition to the regular headlights is simply not worth the money or time to install.
Another good upgrade to your lights is to simply install some 55/100W bulbs in your factory headlights.

You will get more use out of driving lights than fog lights. I have my Hellas/55w hooked into my high beams and they are brighter in the aspect that they shoot the light further. These paired with my SilverStar Ultras provide plenty of light.
Sure higher wattage will provide more light, but do you really need to see whats a half a mile down the road? Plus you can have all the watts humanly possible but its not going to make a difference going around corners and up and over hills.

Prices are all over the place, but I would highly recommend you start watching ebay and craigslist for some bargains. A high quality set up will retail between $150 - $400 so search the 4wd stores for what you want then look for them on the for sale sites.
Whatever you decide on, remember that the brighter you go and the more range you have, the more time you have to react to objects on the road and the less strain you have on your eyes, making you and your passengers safer.

Hellas are like $60-$65 at Wal-Mart. They come complete with all wiring, switch and relay.

I personally like the piaa 520 amber driving lights I have them on my 4runner brush guard and always getting complements. got a great deal on e-bay brand name but not brand name price! also stay away from buying anything from walmart! lots of name brand company's sell there products there but they are made for walmart and are there for cheaper in every way!!!! a good example of this is sony flat screen tvs! don buy one form walmart made in different plant with much much lower quality standards.
