Fog light electrical issues

hey gents,

For a long time I've had a fog light that has largely not worked. Jiggle the wire a bit, or twist the bulb in the housing a little and it would come on for awhile. Well today I decided to look under the car and actually see if I can find the issue. I noticed the negative (I assume? It's the white wire) female connector has some charring. The positive, or green wire, female connector and wire itself look good. The plastic harness connector and the white wire also look good. As far as I can see the only damage on the car end is the female connector on the white wire. There was also a black body stuck on the male terminal and I don't know if that was a little bug at one point that got lit up. But the male prong is also a little black.

I switched bulbs and the other bulb lights up intermittently still. So what do you guys think? I was considering going to a junk yard and trying to find a car with the same connector and just splicing the wires. Any smarter ideas?

Sounds like the connector and the wiring got burnt up for some reason. You may need to cut back some of the wiring and then replace the connectors (if they are damaged/melted) with new ones.

How are the condition of the fog light housings? Are they still sealed? (If you need news ones I still have my old '04 ones from when I installed my ShrockWorks, blinkers, bulbs and all lol, though I don't know if I have the connectors... I'd have to check tomorrow at work.)

What side? I just noticed my left side (drivers side) fog light is out. I'll have to crawl under in the morning and take a look

It's my driver side fog light. And as far as I can tell, the housing is solid. I don't know what happened but luckily 9006 is a very common connector. I'm going to go check out a pick and pull near me tomorrow if it's open. I may just snip it out and splice and replace the connector. Or if it easy to depin the female connector just remove the burnt one and splice in a replacement.

I don't get it. So I got a used connector from an old toyota, exactly the same. Spliced it in, was working great. Same day I saw the fog light was out again. It's completely intermittent. Sometimes it will stay on for my whole drive, other times will go out. And clearly there was an issue with the orinal part because check out the socket I replaced. You can see the charring and where it burned. WTF.
