Fog Light Housing & Terminal Question

I had this in problems and warranty with no response and figured I might get a response in this forum.

Anyone recently have to replace a housing along with a terminal on a 4th generation 4 runner? Mine melted over the weekend due to a faulty connection so I picked one up at the stealership this morning. I think one of the terminals is still salvagable from the housing so I only picked up the physical housing and 1 terminal. Turns out it wasn't.

Is it an easy fix? Anyone done it recently?

Looks like I just need to splice the existing wire, the ends for the new terminals and I should be good to go?

If the wires aren't damaged, you should be able to release them from the plastic connectors and insert them into the new one. You just need a really small screwdriver to release the pins/wires inside the connector. Of course if the connector is melted badly, you might not be able to release & remove them, but if you can it is probably a better option than splicing the wires.

BTW, did the new connector com with wires (pigtails) for splicing, or did it come bare? And how much was the connector at the dealer? Just curious about the price....

I had to buy the terminal seperate from the connector/housing. It just plugs right into the housing. The connector was $10.

Okay, I understand that. I was asking if the connector itself came with any wires sticking out of it (as in pigtails) or was it just a bare connector? Either way, if you can manage to remove the wires and terminal ends from the burned connector, you will not have to do any splicing.

BTW, how did you manage to melt the connector/housings? Did you try to run higher wattage bulbs or something?

I think it was either the foglight itself (70w output but draws 55w), but considering the other foglight was fine, I tend to think it was the fact the bulb wasn't pushed in all of the way.

Either way i think I hear what you are saying now. Both terminals were shot and the new ones came with wiring already attached hence my question regarding regarding splicing. I took these pics with my blackberry for quicker upload and you will see a pic of my fried housing, new housing, new housing with terminal attached and lower part of old housing that I think I can reuse that locks the terminal in place.
