fog light kit '01 SR5

anyone have any experience buying / adding foglights that integrate into the front facia of '00 to '02 SR5s? I have looked at ordering them from toyota but i'm not sure if there are cheaper kits out there (the toyota parts are around $200) or if there are any that will fit those cut outs in the front bumper.

There looks to be mounts and pre-wiring harnesses already in place from the front signal lamps. Any suggestions or input would be most appreciated

might give ebay a try, seen kits for sale there every so often......the hella kits are ok, easy to install as everythings prewired....but some people have had the lights rust out on them within a year
 
On that same note I have a "98 and I'm also looking for a foglight kit, but Toyota no longer makes a kit for the pre 99 fascia the factories are rectangle and would fit just above the the front liscense plate if anyone has any ideas or knows where I can find some OEMs I would appreciate any leads

so i ended up buying a kit off of ebay. no idea as to the quality of these lights (PILOT custom series OEM for toyota) but they were cheap - $85 which is more than half the price of anywhere else I could find including Toyota. The wiring set up looks pretty easy, the switch is actually remote control to the box so there are no wires running into the cab. The switch comes with a mounting bracket, but is removable so you can turn on the lights from the outside of the vehicle. It also has a 15 second self shut off feature when the vehicle is not cranked....pretty cool.

I will do the install this weekend if the weather holds up.

I have no idea how often these come up...I think i just got lucky with the timing. He was very quick with shipment, etc. once he received my payment. [IDEA: even though the auction has ended, there are still kits available - I would email him and see if you can work out a deal or something]

The lights fit any 3rd generation ('96-'02)
 
sorry i take that back... they are only for "99-'02 3rd generation 4runners with the circular plastic inserts adjacent to the front turn signal lamps
 
so I installed this accessory light kit - it was a breeze and the setup is very nice. The only catch is that the lights are bright as all hell. I mean seriously looking at them at night is like staring into the sun. I aimed them down as much as I could but the glare is still pretty ridiculous.


So I guess my question is: does anyone have any ideas on how to lessen the intensity of the lights? I looked to see if I could simply change the bulb but I think its an enclosed casing. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Would something like changing the fuse or relaying a step down from the battery or anything like that work??

Hey what's up guys, . . . this may sound like a noobie question, but how does that foglight kit work if my truck didn't come with the function on how to turn them on/off. If I were to buy them, what do I hook up the wires too? Does my SR5 come with the connections at the stock location where I have little caps to cover the holes? I've never looked. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it, cuz I'm really interested in getting fogs. Thanks. Peace.

I bought my fog lights from here:

They had a sale for like $180 a while back so I had to pick them up. Now they're $250. Who knows maybe you can talk them down.

Anyways when I got the fog lights the glass said hella on them. I assume the factory ones are hella because I've compared them to other ones on the road and they look exactly the same. Also, Metroplex said they were authentic factory fog lights.

To answer your question Joe, the fog kit is supposed to come with a fog light switch that fits perfectly into one of the two empty squares next to the alarm light and steering wheel.

Installation was a snap. The instructions were clear and the hardest thing to do was connect the fog light switch to a wire which was underneath a panel.

I highly recommend this company. They gave me a 1 year warranty. Within that year, one of the bulbs went out. So I called them and they sent me a new one with no problems. But for $250 I wouldn't know if that service is worth it if you can find those lights cheaper elsewhere.

ohhh, btw I have a 2000 4Runner SR5. hope this helps. :D

The HELLA kit at the dealer is likely the same kit offered by Performance Products mentioned earlier in this thread...

Hey, one more question, . . . does the foglight kit already come with a bulb, i.e. the Hella Kit, . . . is it like a Piaa Xtreme White brightness? or is it a regular bulb? If so, . . can it be changed so I can install an xtreme white H3 fog light bulb or no? Thanks. Peace.
 
I've noticed that a couple of guys in this thread have asked about replacing the bulbs in the foglights. I have the same question. Could somebody please let me know what is involved with replacing just the bulb of the foglight. As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hey Joe, Brady,

The ones that come with the kit are regular bulbs. They match the stock headlights.

To change it is fairly easy. You basically place the bulb in the module, connect the power and close the module. The hardest thing is closing it because it only closes if the bulb is in a certain position. Also, the whole time you're doing this on your back, lying on the floor. So if you haven't installed the kit yet, i suggest to replace the bulbs first, then install the kit. It'll save you some headache.

I didn't even know that they made super white light for foglights. I'll probably sometime in the future change them to Sylvania Silverstar both headlights and foglights. Have any of you seen any major differences in Sylvania vs. PIAA? If there's none, i'll probably go with the Silverstar 'cause for one thing, they're like 1/2 the price of PIAAs.

Hey, what's up Zet, . . . thanks for the info. As far as I know, the only difference between Piaa and Silverstar is that Piaa's last longer, (supposedly). I've had Piaa Xtreme White's before in my Millenia, and they looked great (9006,9005, and H3). Can't wait to install them in my Runna, as well as up in the headlights/highs. Just the only thing that kills me is that I wish I didn't have the DRL on, as I don't want to shorten the life of the bulbs. I've read the thread on the DRLs, and if I read correct, they can be turned off by the Toyota dealership???, or either that or start rewiring a whole lot of stuff. If anyone can make it clear and simple, . . let me know. Thanks. Peace.
 
WANTED Fog Lights Cover for 2002

My knock off covers for my fog light for my 2002 has fell out when I went out in the mud. Does anyone have theirs and not need them anymore?
How much? Trade for a deckplate w/ a good write up?
