Fog light wiring

Ok guys, so I am TERRIBLE at electrics. When I purchased the 4runner off my parents it was wired for spot lights. However, these spots only came on when the high beams were on (understandably). However, I just installed a pair of crappy fog lights I had kicking around the house and I was wondering how to switch it so that I don't need my high beams on to use my fog lights.

I don't see the image that you are talking about... There are ~130 pages on the right hand side...

Basically you can run it a number of different ways. The purpose of the power switch is to cut the direct current from the battery to the lights.

Easiest way to do it is:

Take your power wire and run it to the existing switch.... Through out that old crappy switch and buy a NOS switch (u know the one with the cover. When you run a wire to this switch it would be easiest to double the wire up. Unwind the entire 25 feet or however much u have and fold it in half. Then take a hanger that u straighten out and get under the steering wheel and shove the hanger through the fire wall into the engine compartment.

After you do this hook the center of the folded wire onto the hanger and pull it into the drivers compartment.

Repeat these steps and get the wire to the switch area.
Stick the hanger where the switch used to be and pull the wires out of the dash.

Now that is your live wire cut it on the bend and hook it up.

There should now be 2 ends of the wire sticking out of the firewall. One end goes to the battery and one end goes to the lights. You can splice into the wire and run a T off the power wire to the drivers side and the long end will go to the passenger side.

The existing fog lights can be removed and hook up only the power cord. You can save wire on the ground by just hooking up the negative to the side of the bumper where the fog lights attach.

This is exactly how I did mine and it works great. If I have made any errors please Quote and correct me.

I just did this to my 84. The lights were there, but the wires went nowhere, and the switch in the cab had no wires to it.

Anyway, I have never wired anything in a car before, so if I can do this you can to.

I wired mine without having to have low or high beams on.

Got it!!!
The thing that was confusing me was how the switch was connected to the high beam wire which was connected in the wiring harness behind the wheel. So once I changed that, I connected a wire to one of the fuses. It didn't work for some reason, so I checked the fuse on the wire coming from the battery and it was shot so I replaced it with a spare. Then voila, it worked!
