Fog Lights 2013 Trail

I'm trying to replace my 2013 Trail stock fog lights with yellow LEDs and the only ones I see that look decent are the DD SS3 LED Fog Light Kit. All the other replacements for the 5th gen 4Runners are for the models 2014-2023 (after they changed the face look). Does anyone have any suggestions or did anyone replace the stock ones with something they like? Anything that's plug and play vs. a retrofit of some kind?

i ran i think H11 LED light bulbs in the OEM housings... suckers were bright.... like 2nd set of headlights bright...

I now have DD SS3s (which actually are less output personally when looking at them) but look cooler...

I run BD fogs…plug and play for the most part. I don't remember since its been awhile, but it might be a bit easier to install if you remove your front bumper.

another +1 for baja. you do not have to remove your front bumper and you don't need to go through the fender liner in the wheel wells to install. if you have some patience you can do it from underneath by removing and unbolting some of the plastic pieces below the bumper.

fender liner is probably the easiest though just get some extra plastic tabs (4 of them on the 2010-2013s) because the self tapping screws don't like to seat nice and tight in the plastic when trying to reinstall them.

Not to answer a question with a question, but that's going to be the best way I can help you here. First question: Are you looking for street legal fog lights or off road only lighting? And remember a true fog pattern light produces a wide, flat beam pattern designed to illuminate only a short distance forward, but a greater spread from side to side. This is so that in inclement weather - like fog - you can keep track of the sides of the road.

Getting back to the first question, Diode Dynamics makes some of the best street legal fog pattern pods in the business. (I've had several sets.) The SS3 Sport and Elite are their entry level lights and they are both significant upgrades over stock. The Pro is the next step up and is pretty awesome. The Max is the top of the heap and although it's even better than the Pro, it's pretty pricey.

Baja Designs makes some great lights too, but their earlier Squadron LED fog pods were not street legal even though they were advertised to be. BD offered a free retrofit kit to make them street legal, but it killed the light output. Later on, they developed a brand-new street legal fog and offer a free replacement program for folks who had the older lights. (Pretty awesome customer service!)

No matter what aftermarket LED fog pod you go with, installation is mildly inconvenient with either bumper removal of inner fender liner removal required.

And finally, after you get everything installed, proper aiming is critical to not annoying oncoming drivers.

As for installing other pattern (driving, spot, flood, etc.) in place of the fog lights, just remember, those patterns are not street legal because they will really bother oncoming drivers no matter how they're aimed. Off road however, you should be fine.

thanks, I'll looking for street legal as I don't go off-road much and the area where I live is very dark, narrow, dirt roads

In that case, I'd highly recommend the DD SS3 Sport, Elite or even the Pro. If you get a lot of rain or snow, I'd recommend the selective yellow color for better penetration.

You wouldn't believe how many people run their non SAE amber fogs on in Socal...whenever I see amber fogs on at night, I assume a Subaru or Toyota and 95% of the time I am right lol

There are many, many people that run non street legal auxiliary lighting. Truth be told, most folks don't know that there are many different beam patterns as well as legal and non-legal lighting products. On top of that, even a street legal light can bother oncoming drivers if aimed or used incorrectly. And the color of the light (as long as we're talking selective yellow, amber or clear) actually has very little to do with its legality. In the correct beam pattern, all of those colors can be legal.

I just replaced mine with some from the retrofit source. they have a couple ones that are yellow. They are plug and play.

I used the Lasfit, switch backs. Very nice and bright. I could not decide white or yellow. When they are first turned on they are white. Turn the fog lights witch on and then off and they switch to yellow. Definitely worth the money. 4yrs and still going strong.
