Fog Lights: Essential or Outdated? Let’s Chat About Winter Visibility!

With winter sneaking up on us, we all know what’s coming—foggy mornings️, rainy evenings️, and those eerie, snow-filled nights. When you’re driving in these tricky conditions, every bit of visibility helps. But here’s the thing: not all vehicles, especially the newer models, come with fog lights anymore.

So, let’s get into it—does your ride still have fog lights? If it does, do you find them useful when the weather takes a turn for the worse? Or, if your car isn’t equipped with them, how do you tackle driving in low-visibility situations?

Since I live in the DFW area where fog and winter driving conditions are pretty much nonexistent, fog lamp are not really used. Most here have them for looks, I do admit I had them on my Jeep Wrangler, but never used them, well maybe once. Wouldn't you just change out those driving light bulbs for fog lamp bulbs on the front lower R and L side of the vehicle, wouldn't that work, you tell me.

I use the fog lights my TRD ORP came with often, in fog, snow, and rain.

I was thinking about calling these guys about a product I was interested in.

Then I noticed that instead of having a toll free 1-800 number they have a 1-900 number where you pay them for the privilege of calling them. Like the porn chat-lines advertised on TV.

Has anyone ever contacted then by phone?

For me, they don't help at all in the fog but I find them useful at night when I'm on trail, or just want to light up the road more when cars aren't coming at me.

Read some articles that said some manufacturers in industry are not putting them in new vehicles because no proof they actually help in fog/rain/snow and some claim they might make it worse.

I think they remain very helpful at night particularly with a lift.

I find that when I need em it really makes a difference. Kinda like the high beams. But having said that, I use them so infrequently that it usually takes a moment to figure out how to turn em on.
