Fog lights, on or off

Do you drive with your fog lights on whenever your headlights are on or just when it's foggy?

I always drive with them on. They give off a bit more light in addition to the headlights and I drive on some dark roads in NJ.

Fog lights would work so much better for us if the law would allow us to turn off the headlights. Sort of defeats the purpose of good aftermarket fog lights. Wish the factory fogs were better, be one less thing to need to buy in the future.

I have actual yellow OEM bulbs ready to go in and I only use them when needed. I think it's rediculous to see people with them on during the day. I guess that's partly adds to the Silverstars rep of burining out early. Mine are just at two years old now.

I rarely use mine. They are useless in the SF bay area fog anyways. I only turn mine on on unlit roadways for fear of running over other people's pets and squirrels. That and when it is raining if I want to watch the raindrops in front of me.

But hey, if you are looking for an early demise of your alternator, run the fog lights all the time.

I have mine on, more of a driving light type of thing.

I did the mod to allow me to turn them on without the headlights, so I like to pass other 4Runner owners with them on.

You know they are wondering, how did he turn those on... While messing with the switch (lol)

You don't have to have the headlights on with aftermarket fogs....?!

Most factory fogs on cars/SUVs are totally worthless by themselves, and most especially when you have to have headlights on at the same time. So they throw light in the area 5 feet in front of you car - big f'n deal. You'd have to be driving less than 5mph to catch something in those lights only and have enough time to STOP before hitting it.

(oh, and I voted for C, but I always keep them ON anyway, just for looks I guess)

Always on (need to burn out the Silverstars yearly to keep them free.) Did the independent switch mod. Also aimed them correctly (they were way off from the factory.)
Not to sure about this impacting my alternator life. It's a Toyota after all.

Most states require you to have headlights on with fog lights even if they are equivalent wattage as the headlights. I am not aware of any state that lets you run fogs without headlights.

The beauty of being in The Great White North. We need DRLs, we have highbeam distance rules, other dusk to dawn laws, etc... But Ontario doesn't care which ones are on as long as you don't have more than 4 bright forward lights on at any time. No law against 2.

I love the look of my T4R with both Head and Fog lights on!

With just the headlights on it looks... boring.

How frequently do you have to replace the bulbs if you run your fog lights all the time?

The main reason I don't run mine (except in foggy conditions) is just to prevent early burn-out of the bulbs. On my previous SUV, I only used the fog lights when it was foggy. One bulb was replaced after it was broken by a rock, and the other bulb lasted for over 5 years.
