Folks that slam doors

Does anyone else get irritated when folks slam the door on your vehicle? My 4Runner's doors are on the light side and it's easy to shut them too hard, but it seems that some folks just want to slam the crap out of 'em. I have a person who works for me who almost always slams the door on my truck. The car they drive has very heavy doors, so I understand why they think they would need to slam the doors of my truck. It's still irritating.

I guess if this is all I'm grumping about things aren't too bad, right? :)

My dad does this all the time, it annoys me but im sure since our vehicles are so well built it really cant hurt anything. I have noticed that since I cant stand it being done to my car im more cautious about closing the door when riding in someone elses car.
 
What I've noticed about Japanese and Euorpean vehicles is that the doors close much easier with a nice quiet sound without much effort. American cars always clunk to shut the doors and takes more effort. I think that's why people slam my doors, they drive American. I calmly remind them the first two times, then I act like a dick till they obey :headslap: :whipping2 :twak:
 
Being the owner of an American Truck and a Toyota 4Runner I notice what the problem may be....on my truck the door seems heavier and tougher to close, on the 4Runner is seems lighter and the latching mechanism latches much easier than on my truck.....:D

Could just be the car they drive has door that are tougher to close than yours....:biggrin2:
 
It's especially difficult for me. My Corolla is easy to close. My Highlander is pretty easy. But, my Mercedes is heavy and requires a good amount of force to close it on one try. Therefore, it does take a few nano seconds of thinking (which car is this?) before closing each door.
 
Slamming doors

My wife does it everytime. It makes me nuts. She always says sorry but proceeds to do it again the next time.
 
EXACTLY! It drives me crazy too! But luckily my best friend is courteous (sort of ) enough to not slam my doors.

I have the same rule for my rear door, cuz i dont feel like slamming that door with that electronic door closer. Funny, I told blindside this, that the girl Alex from my prom thread is familiar with my car rules, and she even DEMONSTRATED the electronic door closer to one of her friends who rode with me for the first time a few weeks ago.... Kinda hysterical. lol. :p

well, in your case, your G is different. G class is a pure german made and it is really heavy, but compare to my mom's ML, that is really a piece of shit to me since it is a domestic chrysler made. she has to slam the doors shut everytime she gets out her "so-call" euro. but for me it can't really compare to any toyota/lexus at all. and yes, everytime she gets out of my accord/4runner, she has to slam my doors and it is very irritating to me. not to mention she slams my tailgate also!! i've told her it is auto self lock in 4R already, but she just treat mine like her junky ML, gosh.
 
hells yes im like wow wow dont take ur anger out on the door it do nothing to so just relax slamming the door not gonna get us there any faster
 
Another vote for the "drives me nuts" camp.

I don't think it's anything to do with not caring about a car, more about simple ignorance. Truck doors are heavier than car doors and car drivers therefore assume they need more oomph to close.
 
funny, talking about door slams, I was at my Lexus dealer today, and I openned a new LS460L on the showroom and I was STUNNED at how soft and "air-tight" it sounded when I closed it! It didnt even sound like a door close, it was sooo quiet and good fit and finish, no wonder that unit costed $87k! :bugeye: :bonk:
 
I think some of it too has to do with proper cabin venting. Seems alot of cars are poorly vented and you have to slam the door shut to compress the air enough that the door fully latches, and their seals are thicker around the door to make up for uneven gaps around the door's sealing surface.

Toyota, from what I can tell of my first one, their doesnt seen to be any cabin pressure felt when the door reaches the nearly sealed position, meaning they vent the pressure well, and it latches firmly with alot less force.

My Ram also does not need to be slammed hard, but it does take more of a forceful impact to compact the seal when it latches and overcome the cabin pressure. I notice myself closing the 4Runner's doors harder than needed sometimes because I've driven domestic Trucks most all my life. First foreign was the Acura Integra.

And yes, it does annoy me when people slam the doors shut. I promptly tell them it's not a 70's model farm truck with baling wire holding the exhaust up, so take it easy on the doors!
 
my sister slams my passanger side door like its a nyc cab door. It pisses me off soo much that I almosted banned her from my 4runner.

on a side note, lexus spent a lot of time perfecting the way their ls430 sounds when it closes.
 
It's annoying, but usually that only lasts for all of 10 seconds since no harm is done. It's like those who get into your car and they're constantly adjusting their seats (even more annoying if it's manual seats and now the seat is sliding around cause it's not properly latched) or opening and closing the windows cause either there is too much or not enough air flow.

On the other hand if they're opening the door into things, that'll just piss me off to no end.

It's simple... no damage, annoyed. :bash: Damaged, :whipping2 :xnuts:
 
made me think of other passenger habits that drive me nuts... my gf often crosses her legs on the seat while still wearing her outdoors shoes. nice dirt transfer to seat. Then there are those friend who believe the dash is a footrest. Mmmm, nice sweaty foot marks.
 
What really pisses me off is when passengers:

- Passenger(s) opens the door while your STILL MOVING as you try and park.
- Using door pockets as trash bins.
- Slamming the doors ON the belt buckle (THIS TICKS ME OFF TO NO END) and scratches paint.
- Opening window when the AC is running (which is why I lock the controls out now)
- Leaving windows down when they exit.
- Slamming my rear hatch.
- Touching ANY part of my dash with oily fingers or worst, recently moisterized palms.
- Leaving little crumpled snot rags in the center console cup holders.
- Changing the radio station presets.
- Trying to open the glove compartment after a few times knowing already that it is locked.

Yeah I'm pretty anal about my vehicles, BUT they are MY vehicles.
