Footwell lights.

I would like to install some leds in the footwell areas of my 2005 Sr5 4runner. I am, however, an electrical ignoramus.

Here is what I would like to occur:

I would like the lights to be installed in the driver and passenger footwell areas as well as the back passenger footwells. I would like for it to go on/off when the doors open/close. And I would like it to fade off when the dome lights turn off. I would also like to have a switch so I can turn it on or off. Does anyone know if a write up exists for the 4th gens???? Did I mention that I am an electrical ignoramus??? And my SR5 did not come with lighted running boards so i do not think it is pre-wired.

Thanks in advance.

Disclaimer: This may or may not be the cleanest procedure. I'm performing this install in my head, I've never done it. I'm no electrical genius, but I've installed so many car stereos/amps/subs, I'm just not scared to try anything electrical. More recently, I've rewired all the lighting in my rental condo kitchen, and that was much easier than I thought.

I've thought about this project also and I've actually bought all the lights and wires needed, I've just been too lazy to do it.

I know a quick and simple way to accomplish this would most likely be to wire the lights to the dome light fuse. Just install the lights securely in the desired locations, and run the wires to the dome light fuse. Theoretically, the dome light switch would then control the new footwell lights. I would most likley install an inline fuse-breaker on the wire that is connected to the fuse box.

Also, you could run the wires to the dome light itself, but this would require pushing/pulling the wires under the headliner.( Which could potentially result in sagging headliner syndrome, or create a blister in your headliner.)

Again, I'm no pro, so if someone reads this and disagrees with me, feel free to correct me. I'm all ears. I'm sure these procedures will work for what you want though.

If you search you find a few people who added LED lights to the running boards and I believe they tapped into the ignition key ring light which does the fading like the dome lights and works with the remote locking/unlocking.

I am planning to do this and may add in the footwell lights as well.

Im would like to do this too. I would llike orange lights to match everything else on the dash ect...

Dont know if thats possible
