Today I replaced a wooden trim around the shift lever. While I was there, I saw a link attached to the shift lever running into the transmission. I simply apply some liquid wrench on the link joints and some on the main shift lever shaft (right below the shift lever).
Amazing.... the shift lever is so smooth and so silent when shifting between gears.
Took about 10 minutes for everything.
Remove the two Philips bolts by the tray and lift the trim to access the links.
