It's actually pretty flush with the doors. No serious overhang on either side. You can get longer bars if desired but I think these look appropriate and it's the size Thule recommends

FWIW I just shipped a 1st gen 4Runner Thule rack in a 50" box with the USPS for $15 and change. GLWS.
