Valvoline only offers their Synthetic VR1 Racing Oil in 20W-50 & 10W-30 quarts. This seems to me to be a long way from the 0W-20 that Toyota specifies for 5th generation T4R's in the USA.
 
For what its worth, I recently reached 5,000 miles and changed my oil.
I like and used "Royal Purple" 5W20, purchased at AutoZone about $8.00 / bottle

I noticed immediately that the engine sound level is quieter then prior to the oil change.

I'm surprised I don't hear more about the fumoto valve on this forum. I used to hear about it all the time on the old Tacoma forum. The fumoto valve is the ONLY way to go if changing your own oil.
 
Ill be changing my own oil as soon as the free maintenance program is up. Are you guys changing it even though some of you have the free maintenance?
 
I changed mine at 1K and 5k. Will have the dealer change it out at 10k and 20k. I do recall seeing an oil analysis for the 0w-20 Toyota synthetic and getting good results. I too am an amsoil user and will probably use it in the truck once the service plan is up. Price isnt that bad as long as you can find a supplier who will charge you the discounted price.
 
fumoto valve

Where do you guys purchase your fumoto valve and which part #?

I have one on my g35 and love it, however, its been 6 years since i purchased it and cannot remember the vendor.
 
does the fumoto valve fit underneath the small cover that hides the oil drain??

This would be great if it fits under there without modification..

anyone know for sure?

Yes, it should. I measured the distance from the bottom of the oil pan to the top of the skid (The part that covers the oil drain plug and unbolts) It was 1 1/4"...They make 3 versions, and all of them should fit.

I had the F103N on my FJ and it fit just fine, real close to the same distance.

One without a nipple: F103 (7/8" in length - sticks out 1/2" more than standard oil plug head.)

One with a short nipple: F103S (17/16" in length)

One with full nipple: F103N (1 1/2" in length - sticks out 1 1/8" more than standard oil plug head)

Yeah, I said nipple 3 times

my apologies for bringing this thread back from the dead. I just changed my oil yesterday and forgot all about ordering a fumoto valve. It only occured to me once I was underneath the truck about to drain the oil and then...DOH!

So now I'm going to order it so I don't forget again.. Can you or anyone confirm that the F103S or the F103N actually does or doesn't fit under the plate? If not I'm just going to go ahead and order the short nippled one (F103S) and hope that it works. Thanks guys!
 
For those with the Fumato F103N, you got a pic of it installed on your T4R? I'm trying to visualize if you need to remove the skid plate to access the drain plug or if you can just hook the plastic tubeto it without removing the skidplate.

The front skid plate needs to be removed (or swing down) to access the oil filter only.

The drain plug is located behind a smaller plate secured with 2 12mm bolts. There's no way to remove the plug or access it without removing this small plate... unless you leave it off between changes.

I can reach my oil filter by simply turning the wheels to the left and reaching in behind the driver side wheel. As for the drain plug my skid has a hole where the plug is so I've never had to remove it to drain my oil.
