For those who removed running boards...

Since I have lifted my truck, I am starting to really consider removing my running boards. Yes, I know I am being a huge hypocrite, but my opinion is different now that I have lifted it.

My questions are: Is it hard to wash the top when only being able to stand on the tires, because I wash my truck weekly. Also, will I get any rock chips on the side even if I leave on the mud flaps, or will the mud flaps prevent it enough?

Same question =D I know mud is a problem, but that can be washed off.

i would have a problem cleaning the area behind the sunroof.

i wouldn't trust using a mop/extended brush at the diy car wash places.

Well, I'm 6' but I also don't really wash my car at this point. I take it to the self-serve car washes about twice a month. 5 dollars gets me Mag-Away, soap, water, and distilled water.

5'9"-ish, and I would never use an extended brush. I even use the Mr. Clean Autodry wash now so I can avoid towels. Helps keep it from getting swirls. Tomorrow after class when i'm taking pics of my lift i'll stand on the tires and see how my reach is.

i think it's going to be REAL hard for you to clean the roof towards the front of the car. i can not utilize the front tire.

however using a step ladder might equal things out, but it would be bothersome to lug that thing around each time you wash the roof.

im 6'2 maybe even 6'3, and its hard for me to wash my roof, impossible actually. i have to stand on a recycling bin to be able to reach to the center of the roof. I just washed and waxed her today, and removed my boards last week.....so its all fresh!
As far as rock chips, im sure its much more possible once the boards are off, i mean this wash I was cleaning mud off of spots ive never before cleaned.... so, possible yes. but the look is much better! i want sliders soon myself tho

I take mine off on off road trips but I get a lot of rock chips especially on the back door. I like them on the street though. They keep mud ect. from being thrown all over the sides and make it easier to wash/dry the top.

That's the same thing I use to wash my lifted Bronco.

Well, I suggest you to keep it unless you spend most of your time drivin' in big rivers...

It's not very easy to wash the roof with the running boards removed, but anything is possible.

Also, you've gotta consider that the running boards may save your car from flying rocks from the tires (EVEN tho' you have mud flaps) and some smaller trees.

I for example need a friggin' helicopter to wash my roof on the driver's side. (Broke the running board off few months ago, haven't had time to fix it lol).

The main thing that bothers me is the under body is FUGLY, so I think it would bug me too much seeing everything hanging down every time I walked to my truck. The tubes hide all of that. Plus, since mine is black, road debris is not my friend.

I'm 5'10" and I stand on the rear tires to get the back of the roof with no issues and I open the doors and stand on the sill to get the rest.

Front flaps will do a good job of deflecting most things away from your rocker panels.

Same here.

Same here as well. I cant use a ladder very well because my driveway is sloped. Water, aluminum, and an angled surface is not a good combo. I just open the doors to clean the sides and stand on the back bumper to get the back of the roof.

If your worried about the rocks and stuff put a piece of clear laminate on where the running boards used to protect. That is what I did. Cost is minimum.
