? for those with side exhaust

Now that it has warmed up I am going to move the exhaust so I can ride with the rear window down. I am going with a single 3.5" stainless tip behind the passenger rear wheel. Once the resonator is chopped off the last exhaust hanger is going to be useless. Have you guys had a new exhaust hanger made or do you just let the pipe hang? Seems like you would have to use a new hanger to keep the pipe from bouncing all over the place. Can some of you guys post some pictures of your setup? I want to make sure my exhaust guy gets it right. Thanks.

I don't have pics of the actual piping, but the guy that did mine reused that last hanger. I will note that I still get the sulfer smell, didn't really help that much at all. It did add a nice little rumble, love the sound.

Well that is kind of disappointing. I thought folks had decent luck getting rid of the smell with this setup.

Everyone I'd talked to had, I just didn't have any luck. Mine comes out at about a 45 degree angle, I think a full 90 would be required to get rid of it. I think mine's still pointed far enough back you get the smell still. Looks 10x better with the tip so still worth the money, and the sound is very nice as well. You can hear it outside the vehicle and at idle, but during driving it's never heard.

Mine was done at more of an angle. Not a full 90, but probably close. I do still get the sulfur smell sometimes, but not nearly as often. It helped a lot. I did the mod more so because I kept crushing my tailpipe when going off road. Looks better out the side, fixed my busted exhaust, and HELPED with the sulfur smell.

Overall, its still a good "mod".

Mine is very close to a 90 and I still get the sulfer smell at times, it did help though.

i changed to a flowmaster super 44 and its more deeper in sound. but i did reuse everything else.

Mine exits just behind the rear mudflap. The piece of pipe I used was part of a downpipe (right off the turbo) from a 6.0L Ford Diesel. The tip is a Magnaflow oval left over from a different vehicle cat-back. I made a new hanger from a long u-bolt left over from some lift kit. I have no more sulfer smell inside the 4runner anymore. Haven't tried it with the window down as I never roll it down. Thought I had a better pic of this but you get the idea.

I installed a full Magnaflow Cat-Back system. The smell is mostly absent, but I notice it once in a while when I get on the throttle hard. The sound is awesome with the Magnaflow!

it greatly helps with the smell. you will sometimes catch a whiff of it, but it's much better. i turned mine on about a 60 degree angle and reused the "stock" tip (whatever that clamp on job is). love the look and the sound increase is really minor

So are you guys still getting the smell only when you are hard on the gas? I can probably live with that, I just don't want to have it rolling down the road at 45mph. Right now I can crack the rear window about 8" and it only smells on the highway or when I punch it.

I had mine moved a few weeks ago. Found a guy who is a steel sculpture artist. Part of his studio is a muffler shop, that's what he does to pay the bills month to month. He managed to move it to the side and keep the resonator. $50 was what he charged me.

Never had a real problem with sulfur odor, moved it because I want to put one of those hitch baskets on for extra cargo room when I camp. The exhaust straight out would burn/stink up anything on the hitch basket.

<p>Here is my Side Exhaust Mod on my V6, completed just today. The shop did a beautiful job. As you can see, the welding quality is excellent. He was able to reuse the old hanger, as you can see.
I went with a Silverline stainless steel tip.

<p>The cost of the job was only $80 plus tax, about $87 out the door. $60 for the tip and $20 for the pipe and labor. This was done by Performance Muffler in Phoenix, AZ, BTW. All in all a great value, IMHO.
I haven't driven it a lot yet, but it seems only very very slightly louder -- not much difference. Sorry about the weird reflection from the sun in the second pic.
