Just had a little get together last night I got to drive my first 911 Turbo that was modded by Prototech in Florida and my friends 03 ZO6 vette with an ATI procharger. All I can say is holy#@#%%! There is nothing like a fast car! I mean fast! Both are totally different animals but very close to the same hp #'s.
So my question is... who wants to be the first to install an ATI PSC-1 Procharger on their V8 runner? Guy I work with has an 04 Silverado x-cab with that set up and produced 502 RWHP. It rips but no traction and can't compare to the 911 or ZO6. I bet an All wheel drive ATI procharged V8 runner would be a blast! check out superchargersforless.com Also, my friends site is bentickner.com
No doubt who ever did this would be a first for the 4th gen... that is with an ATI.

FI is certainly fun (1100 hp capable BMW m5 in my past) but there is too much that would need to be done to the 4runner to make it that great. I think it could support about 400hp/trq..but i would one would have to figure out what the tranny would hold.
 
One little detail.....

How would you defeat the Traction Control system? It is melded into the engine management system. No one has come up with a way to keep it from de-throttling the engine when extreme wheelspin occurs.

Imagine being able to lock all the differentials, with no TRAC system trying to grab the brake on a spinng wheel.
 
ATI Prochargers would make the kit by request I think but would need another computer to control it. Diablosport makes a tuning tool to map it. Not really sure but I know that is the only challege. I wouldn't be concerned about spinning the tires and traction. I think the drivetrain is pretty stout and spinning all 4 tires with the weight of this vehicle would require more Hp than the 4.7 would acheive. Heck, the ZO6 still uses the traction control but you would be suprised how 600hp+ hooks up in that vette when your moving around 25mph!Think of what the old 4 banger drivetrains took with V8 swaps. Over on yotatech the guy thats partnered with Gadget, Brian Tragger of underdog racing had an ATI procharger on a 3.4 but I think he did the internals too, and it prob cost big$$. Was around 500hp if I remember correctly. Just dreaming though, one of these days. Love to see someone here do it!:D

all you would need to do to defeat the trac system is pull the fuse, atleast thats how it works in my truck. who knows with all that tech thats in those new t4r what else might have to be done, good luck if you do it

It never saw a dyno or 1/4 with me although the person that i sold it to ran a very conservative 11.9..didnt use all the power through 1st or 2nd.
 
That sure is sick!! I love M5's. I sure hope the new owner tuned it in with a dyno. From what my friends were saying a dyno is a must on FI's motors for for proper tuning. Ah, I don't know much about FI but I do want a supercharged ride at some point in my life! Maybe I'll buy that ZO6. He seems to get bored with things around a year or so. After 2yrs, it will be up for sale for sure! The 911 is out though! Prototech is big $$$, never mind a 911 turbo!

You know i do..and i know i do. But after not having my m5 for over a year to have the engine built and supercharged, im very hesitant to deal with somethingn like that. Although i know i can talk to the guys that build my m5 into doing it
 
The only way I would add FI would be with a TRD set-up. If it were available it would be on my Runner. I've had a TRD blower on my Taco for 80K miles now and it runs the same as it did the first day. It even retained the same gas milage as long as I'm not balls to the wall. Man, I wish TRD would get their act together!

I would do a twin screw setup in a heartbeat but a centrifugal is out of the question on my Runner. What I would really like to see is a turbo setup but I don't think any company is going to invest in the R&D due to the limited number of kits that would sell.

I completely agree about the twinscrew setup...although a centrifugal would keep more of the stock power delivery which isnt such a bad thing especially when dealing with idle power and just off idle power for off road work. Granted Toyota has got some great throttle mapping when its in low but still with an extra say 100hp even off idle, thats still a touchy thing.

Im kinda mentally running through a TS setup and while TRD did the Modified Roots style, I just wonder if any other compnay would be able to cast a intake manifold with either a lysolm or a roots (modified roots) setup.

I'm sure they could do it but the problem would be recouping the R&D costs. As you know the 4Runner is not exactly a popular platform for aftermarket performance such as the mustang, supra, etc.
 
Has anyone researched ATI Prochargers? I don't know much but I hear they are self lubricated so no punching holes in the oil pan like vortek. I would think the only main issue is puter mapping and adding bigger injectors/pump. Heck, the ATI on the ZO6 vette was installed by a dealer and is covered under the factory warranty. Joe Gibbs Silverado package uses this same setup and is purchased through the dealer and is warrantied also. I guess it would be better for TRD to get their act together so it could be warrantied but we know thats not happening.
Take a look at what an ATI charger did to a stock 02 mustang GT. There is a vid on superchargers for less were they show it run a 12sec 1/4 with just the S/C mod. Hell. I sound like a ATI cheerleader:arrow: Guess I was sold on the ZO6. I guess I'll have to wonder.... well I do have alot of S/C resources with a few very experienced people that would love to get there hands on my runner... I guess its all about the money and headaches ah, you never know;): Maybe I'll have a suprise in the spring................

And I agree with you Casper, the magna is getting louder with mileage(saw other post).

Ill look into it although the diffs are going to need to be beefed up to handle the power....

Not a huge problem as i have people that will build diffs than handle a hella more power than that.

Im going to look into prochargers, ATI and some of the roots/lysholm people
