LOLOLOL....ya funny you mention the explorer forum,i was just over there the other day because one of my buddies said my runner looks like a ford explorer.I had to show the the explorer/ranger forum and showed her all the issues people were having with them LOLOLZ
When I was car shopping I stopped in at the local Ford dealership and looked at some trucks and SUVs.
When it comes to full size trucks, Ford makes some damn nice looking vehicles, so nice in fact that I find myself wondering if I should not just have gotten a Ford pickup, but than I think about my 64 mile daily commute and I dont think I could afford the gas..
Fords SUVs on the other hand leave alot to be desired. Both the escape and explorer look very fragile, and not up to anything other than highway driving.
The 4runner looks like a tank compared to these two vehicles.

I actually liked the old Ford Explorers that were made from 1991 to 1994 (the square bodied ones) best of all - when they looked like a Ranger pickup from the front end. The antique (by today's standards) 4.0L pushrod V6 held up rather well for the time.
My aunt has a 2003 Explorer that she has owned since new, and she likes it a lot. That being said, I just don't think it compares to a 4Runner by any stretch......but she enjoys it and it is long-since paid off; so more power to her.
Regarding the "full size" trucks that Ford makes, I think they are among the best vehicles on the road - and probably always have been. They just don't die. I love the F-Series, especially the Powerstroke turbodiesel trucks.
I used to have a 1985 Ranger pickup (compact size) and liked it, although it was so bare-bones that it had roll-up windows and rubber flooring instead of carpeting.

I frequent the explorer forums from time to time cause I also own one. I have 2 Fords and 2 Toyotas. I like the Explorer for longtrips as it gets better gas mileage than my 4Runner. I also have a 1984 Toyota SR5 pickup 4cyl 2wd that is still running strong. The other Ford is 00 Mustang GT that I have always wanted and will prob never part from it. To each his/her own. The only ones I dont really care for is a Chevy. lol

Seriously, I have a thick skin and have taken flak on just about every type of bulletin board you can find (especially the political ones); so I don't sweat it.
I am mostly a "Ford guy" when it comes to trucks, but could not honestly find a decent used F-Series when I was in the market for my truck. They were all '07 to '09 models and people wanted an arm and a leg for them; or else the ones I saw were '00 to '02 models with 160,000 miles on the clock. The selection of trucks with 70,000 to 90,000 was virtually nil around here.
Anyway, my Chebby has the strong 5.3L V8 and I have been satisfied with it so far. I bought it with 74,000 and just turned 85,000 on it. The best thing I did (after a complete flushing of the tranny fluid & the coolant) was having dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers installed.
It is an extended cab half-ton - and the only negative thing is that it is 2wd (horrible in snow); but it is what it is. I'll drive my Sentra during inclement weather, as the front-wheel-drive is at least manageable when there is snow on the roads. Until I can get another 4Runner sometime in the future, I will have to "make do" with what I got.
Great that you like Mustangs! I have had four of them in my life - every one of them a GT. Ford really upped the ante with the 2011 models, that is for sure. 415 hp for the GT (now REALLY a 5.0L block) and 300 horsepower for the "lowly" V6 cars. That is just awesome and it shows that Americans CAN BUILD GREAT CARS if they want to. Chevy's new Camaro is no slouch, either, even though it is assembled up in Canada.
Anyway, the main thing is that people enjoy what they have and that their vehicles prove reliable and dependable. Different strokes for different folks, right?

I am not really downing them. I like the newer camaros and such. But I have 2 here at the house that I am working on and it is being a monstrous of at time in finding a donor to get the parts I need to get these 2 going again. I am keen to all car types really. I just prefer my Fords and Yotas over everything else if I had to choose. My dad has the 5.3 in his 08 and it is a comfortable riding truck. I want to get me a Superduty 250 or 350 for towing.

10-4 on the SuperDuty. Those things truly are beasts! I notice that at least half of them - if not more - have the PowerStroke turbodiesel engine option. From the first PowerStroke in 1993/4, Ford sourced them from International/Navisatar and did so up through the 2010 models.
Beginning with the 2011 model, Ford now builds their diesel engine "in house" rather than obtaining it from an outside vendor. I suppose this is because of all the warranty work & problems associated with the 2003 to 2007 trucks equipped with the International 6.0L (DT365) engine. They just were not as good or reliable as the venerable 7.3L blocks.
Those new 2011 Ford "Scorpion" engines are much stronger, quieter and more economical than the 6.4L; but only time will tell if they hold up over the long haul. From what I have read about it, Ford really did their homework and took their time designing and testing the new powerplant.
I have only seen a few of these trucks on the road and they really are less noisy and the diesel "clatter" resembles a late-model Mercedes sedan more than a high-torque work truck.

I would love to see a head to head comparo with the Dodge 2500HD 6.7L I-6 Cummins turbodiesel, the Ford F-250 Powerstroke diesel V-8 and a GMC/Chevrolet 2500 HD with the optional Duramax 6.6L diesel V-8. Now that would be cool. Do acceleration - loaded & empty, 1/4-mile, zero to sixty, etc.; try out the handling and examine the other great features of those oil-burning trucks!
