Rosberg finished first by a good margin.
Ricciardo finished second but was later disqualified for illegal fuel flow.
Magnussen finished third but captured second in the wake of Ricciardo's DQ
Button takes third as a result of the DQ.

Vettel and Hamilton both out early from car issues. Rough day for Lotus.

It was a wild day...excited for Malaysia! That's an awesome circuit.
 
IMO, there are too many restrictions and regulations on what should be an unlimited racing series.
 
The cars look and sound like crap. They're unreliable and with strict off-season testing limits, borderline dangerous to drive.
FIA should look at gradual phasing in of changes and not make so many in a single season, with limited testing to see what the impact will be on the sport.
 
I'm pretty familiar with the changes made to the '14 F1 cars as described in the video. I think the fuel restrictions in a premier racing class is just stupid. They do the same thing in MotoGP.

They want to be seen as being politically correct, hence the whole "efficiency" angle. Why not just have a Prius racing series, and call it a day?

I'm just glad that the politically correct "efficiency" mantra hasn't overwhelmed the racing series I've worked in for the last ten years or so.

So? I've heard the same arguments in regard to NHRA Top Fuel. I have experience with well-funded, and just-getting-by teams in that series. If there were no incentive for the lesser-funded teams to become better, the appeal would be lost for many aspiring race teams.

Racing at the top level is expensive. It takes a certain mindset and serious financial backing, to be able to compete in any racing series.

F1 is either the ultimate in car roadracing, or it's some watered-down, computer-controlled, fuel economy biased race series.

A shadow of it's former glory.

They might just cancel it the way NYC cancelled the marathon after Sandy
 
85% of the reason to watch on TV was the incredible sound.....now that is gone, it's hard to watch.

A hybrid car (50/50 gas/electric) is on the way, and will lead to a all electric series.

You realize the top teams are approaching $500 million a year on their teams for a budget while the back marker teams are well under $100 million.

The top teams will spend more on just Aero development than one of the bottom teams ENTIRE budgets. Since Aero is king these days that's a huge advantage, look how many of the past WCC titles have been won by cars designed by Rory Byrne or Adrian Newey. The restrictive rules don't allow for interesting innovation for a small team to make a big jump and if they do, the big teams quickly complain and get it outlawed.

Indy car looks like club racing compared to F1.

Doubtful.

The raced in Bahrain last year with riot police protecting the route from the airport to the tracks/hotels.

Yep.

As I said, racing at the top level in any series is expensive. Not everyone can afford to race at the highest level.

So F1 is either the ultimate Roadracing series, or it's not.

They seem intent on watering it down to the point it's no longer has the same appeal to participants, or spectators. At that point we might as well be watching Formula Ford's circulate the track..

As usual, different people have different opinions.

I think it would be a much more interesting series if they did something along the lines of:

- $350 million budget cap
- safety/tire rules remain largely the same
- open up the Technical regulations so there can be innovation in suspension, aero, and engine technology


As it stands, it's whomever can afford the most windtunnel and CFD time. How is that pinnacle of road racing either?
 
Looks like it's gonna be a good season for Mercedes and a rough one for Red Bull...

Lewis Hamilton took first, teammate Nico Rosberg takes second, Vettel finally on the points board with third place.

Massa is in troubleeeee lol
