Forum Advertisements

Hey Dudes,

Is it just me or has the size and amount of advertisements on this forum dramatically increased? I never remember ads almost taking up half of the screen. I'm not on the forum as much these days but it sure seems like the ads have gotten more annoying. I guess the owners of this site want to increase their profits.

Maybe a bit hypocritical on my part since infamousRNR and I allow ads on our Timmy the Toolman Youtube channel so we can receive some financial compensation for the time we put in, but at least we're the ones creating the content to benefit others. I don't know how much work goes into managing a forum like this, but the actual content is created by us, the members.

I never took much notice of the ads before, but now they are very much in your face and hard to ignore. I'm glad T4R was established as a forum because it's been a huge help for so many people, but it's the members that make it great and I think this level of advertising might scare some people away.

I'm fairly new to the forum, so I don't know about any increase in ads, but I can say that the site is very hard to use due to all of the ads.

I think it had to do with the way the ad was being served or perhaps some bad markup in the HTML of the sidebar. There was one single ad that I could delete from the browser and everything went beck to normal (until the next page load).

I haven't seen the huge ads this morning though. Perhaps they fixed it.

I've always thought the ads on T4R.org have been much better than other sites. I monitor my CPU usage and the ads on other Toyota sites really peg that monitor. So much so that I only visit those sites when I have a very specific reason.

I would gladly pay an annual membership fee for an ad-free experience... I mean, can you say cable TV?

Seriously tho, Is that an option? I sent a message to the admin staff from the forum contact link asking the same, never got an answer

I have no issues on a computer browser with this forum but it has gotten a lot worse on mobile. It's almost impossible to navigate on the phone now so I usually don't even try.

Hey Dudes,

Hey Tim,

This is an unrelated, totally off the wall question. I was looking around for a DIY auto shop space (we used to have one in SF called Jerry's where you could do your own work with their lifts and air tools, etc for $20 an hour) and I came across a place in SJ called DIYorDIE Techshop. I looked at their IG page and noticed you or Sean followed their IG. I know you guys do all your own work, but have you had any experience with them (via the grapevine)?

I have noticed a larger number of ads but also more intrusive ads. Accessing the forum via Tapatalk with a paid membership eliminates all ads, but it’s far easier to search the forum in a web browser. I find myself using Tapatalk for reading and contributing to the latest threads, but anytime I need to search for something I use a browser.

I’d pay a membership fee too. This forum is way to valuable to let die…

Same. I get logged out every single time I try to switch a page, and the ads just keep popping up but the site doesn't really work. I'm using an Android so that might have something to do with it, but it's super annoying.

Same here, Malwarebytes free adblocker extension does fine on my PC.
But ads are terrible on my mobile.

Also, since this is not a 3rd Gen related issue, moving this to General Discussions so all can see this thread.

I think Sean aka infamousRNR must have some experience with them since he takes care of our Instagram page.
