Found a Unicorn - Manual Window 3rd Gen

I found one today 96. 4cyl. 4wd. Auto. Roll up windows. First time ever in person

I know this thread is old but my ‘99 4Runner SR5 4x4 has crank windows and I would like to install power windows in it. I’m looking for power door panels in the matching color, in leather or cloth.

If you have a V6 with crank windows then you are driving a unicorn buddy.

After reading this thread I'm starting to realize that. It's a 5spd too. Regardless, I would rather have power windows, and if someone wanted to trade I guess it'd be a win-win.

They're everywhere in tan, local junkyards will be your best bet.

I'd check and make sure your truck has the harnesses for the windows and locks pre-wired. I'd assume it does with how few came without the power options, but I don't know for sure. Harnesses are behind the kick panels on either side in the front and behind the seat belt covers for the rear doors.

If they're pre-wired I'd look into buying a complete set of doors as they're typically relatively inexpensive (200$ or less depending on condition) and swapping all the guts and panel into your door shells.

Just be careful, if you drive off a cliff into a lake you might not be able to open the electric windows and you'll be trapped!!!

Happened here to an ambulance a few years ago.

Thanks for the warning. Right when I bought the truck and told one of my friends I wanted to convert to power he mentioned that. I have a window punch on the knife I keep in my center console so hopefully that will rectify any issues if I end up driving off a cliff. :lookout:

Funny story, my friend has a Fisker Karma, which has fully electric everything including doors, there is no handle to pull. He was driving around with a dead electric battery I think, can't remember the exact story, so his electrics didn't work. He couldn't unlock the doors from the inside and the only way to unlock them was from the outside with the key but he had the key inside. So he had to call his wife on the cell phone which didn't work in his garage, and get her to bring the other set of keys, so he just cranked the stereo to full blast to get her attention. She opened the door and threw the keys in and shut the door afterwards so he still couldn't get out and all the keys were inside!!! He was yelling but she didn't get it. So he had to go drive around for 10 km in gas mode to recharge the battery in order to get out. That thing is a death trap.

I wonder if the windows not opening underwater was because of the motor unable to overcome the friction created by the water pressure against the window. A lot of times, DC electrics will work underwater, especially fresh water.

I was wondering the same thing, it does look like a button for power locks. That must be super handy! My base 4Runner doesn't have the fancy options mentioned, I really wish I had the rear spoiler/wing...

My brother's 07 Corolla just had a problem where the master switch fried up and almost caught on fire. He's looking to replace the switch but in the meantime he can't roll any of his windows down.

I thought I saw a used spoiler for sale on ebay.

I am just wondering in your brother's
Corolla, didn't any fuses blow and before replacing the switches etc. I would verify all the wires are intact and good in the drivers door boot as most likely, that maybe where his short has occurred.
