Are you planning to buy it?? If so, then get ready to open your wallet...it is a big money pit!!

I really want one, but I've been looking for an FJ62 despite the 60's having manuals, and those round head lights. They can cost a bit, but I think most of the work can be done by yourself

I have always been casually looking at FJ62's and think they are great trucks.

Thai is right, be prepared to spend some money, but all and all they are great trucks. I would go for a 62 over a 60 though.

I'd say if he's willing to let you take it to a shop for a quick mechanic's opinion, go for it. My best friend had a 62 in college and over 4 years he had pretty good luck with it. If you can do most of the work yourself, you'll save alot of cash and you can always find parts online from companies like Man-a-fre. I may pick up a project truck myself this summer; good luck.

No , I just found it interesting. Don't see many around here anymore. My friend bought one when it was new . He still has whats left of it ...lol. sitting up north in Wi in the woods. He did have quite a few problems with it , but also put like 350k miles on it.

Thai , did they have a bad rep. ??

No, but like most cars, rust is a major problem. I hear a lot of rust issues with older FJs. (Hell, even the new FJs have rust issues, according to some owners on FJ forums.)

On a separate but somewhat related topic, a friend of mine (TEXGX on this forum) has a GX470 KDSS. He was seriously considering a FJ80 as his expedition vehicle. He went on IH8MUD and asked several people's opinion on TLC80...and the consensus was that there are fewer and fewer well-conditioned samples out there and that maintenance is a big problem for older engines. So, if the FJ80s are hard to maintain, then i can only imagine what an older FJ would cost to bring it up to driving standards.

Sure they are old, slow, and may break down. But they just look so cool...

Agreed. It's all about having reasonable expectations of an 20+ year old vehicle and enjoying it warts and all. IMHO I'd rather off-road in something where I'm not going to worry about scratches or dents.
