Fox 2.0 Coilover Question

Ok suspension gurus, here's my question.

I installed Fox Performance 2.0 coilovers about a year ago with the adjustment collar at the factory setting, stock UCA. Loved the ride, no complaints.

About a week ago, I installed Camburg UCAs, and was hoping to be able to dial up the coilovers about an inch or so to get rid of the nose down rake I had. (I am running Eibach 1.5 springs in the rear.)

The ride is now super harsh, reminds me of my old tacoma on spacers days. Not sure if I am using this term correctly but it feels "topped out". Instead of absorbing bumps it pummels them to death. Its almost jarring over certain bumps. I'll attach a photo showing where how many threads I am showing, and you will see where I had them set originally. (There is still over an inch of thread left)

However, the ride height is perfect, I am showing 23" from center of hub to bottom of fender. My question is then, if I was to upgrade to Fox 2.5" coilovers, could I achieve the same ride height WITHOUT the harsh ride? I am on the fence about upgrading anyway.

Not sure which version of the 2.5 you are wanting (2.5 emulsion, 2.5 resi, or 2.5 resi w/DSC), but as long as it is a 0-3" part number you will be able to achieve the height you are looking for without the harsh ride you are currently experiencing. What makes that possible is FOX removes the internal spacer they install on the 0-2" versions therefore allowing the coil over to travel the distance needed at the 3" height to not cause the harsh ride.
 
if your ride is harsh, thats an indicator of reduced dampening... which your shock are supposed to do. do you have any leaks/ rust? is it only harsh one corner? side? end?

also, did you remove any weight from the vehicle? add bump stops?

without checking it out, my gut thinks that one or more shocks have seized or are on their way.

Such an informative first post, thanks for the info. Am also contemplating a lift with fox suspension so it is much appreciated.
 
I would say you are cranked too high for your shock, looking at the amount of threads that are below the perch. By going that high you probably lost the down travel that you had causing the "top out" feel. I had the same issue with my Radflos which were stock length, when I raised them to match and that was a 2.5. I would lower the front back down and accept the rake.

If you want to spend the money then go for the 2.5 coilovers but if they are still factory length you will still get the top out at the given height you are trying to achieve. What you need is an extended travel shock to give you more travel (small amount) to avoid such a harsh top out.

But if Fox does have the spacer in for a 0"-2" shock send them back and have it removed to see if it helps first before buying something new.

Were you able to adjust them without removing them and placing them in an compressor? I have the same situation and thought about adjusting the front to gain about .5”. How much height increase did you get after you adjusted them. Looks like you gained over an inch on the threads, but curious how that translates to ride height.

I had those on my 2015 GMC and sold them at a loss to go to Billy 5100's. The 2.0's are a joke, as is FOX customer service. Mine were impossible to adjust, even off the truck. The 2.0's just compress the spring more to give more lift where a true adjustable coilover the spring stays the same and the body of the shock gets longer or shorter.
 
OP check if your coils are binding or if there's contact in the coil spring loops on each other. You could be bottoming out on the coils with that much preload.

Going up a spring rate (ex: 600lb to 650lb) will get you some lift with less preload + reduce nose dive.

Cranking any coilover to the max is always bad for the ride

And I am pretty sure I run a "true" coilover and my lift comes from spring compression.

You are correct. I was thinking more performance car coilovers. The way the FOX 2.0's do it is janky as heck though. No way to adjust them on the car. Pretty much need a spring compressor to relieve the tension just to adjust them.

Welcome to truck coilovers, all of them are pretty much the same (although some easier then others).

This basically answers my question. I need to go with the Fox 2.5" coilover that is specified for 0-3" of lift, which should give me the same height but the ride will be more "in the middle" of the shock, or as the factory intended, as opposed to topped out.
