Fox Coil-Overs & 600# Springs Questions

Looking to do a 3" lift on my TRD Pro. I've researched and considered different brands and I keep coming back to wanting to do the Fox 2.5s. Why? I'm not sure other then I really like Fox stuff.

My question is they come with Eibach 600# springs. I know these will ride great but will they be okay when I add a slimline bumper and winch? My other lift choices were the Toytec Boss 2.5s that run 650# springs and the Icon 2.5s that I believe run 700# springs. I know I could change out the Eibach springs to heavier ones later if I needed to but I'd only like to do this once. Also if anyone has any input or experience with the Fox Coil-Overs for the 5TR I'd be interested in hearing it. Thanks for any help.

I can’t speak to your bumper question, but I have had the Fox 2.5 extended travel coil overs on for about a month now and I really like them. Definilty stiffer ride than stock, but as others have said, not in a bad way at all and I prefer it over a mushy suspension. The ride is very controlled and they greatly reduced brake dive and body roll. They are a bit noisy right now but should quiet down after a bit more use. I haven’t had a chance to take them off-road yet, but I have no doubt they will do great.

Thanks for the info. Did you go with the 3" lift ones? With our without remote rest? Noisy in what way? I'm trying to stay away from much extra noise since it's a daily driver and I do make a long trip once a month. That's why I've shied away from the Icons. Oh what did you do for the rear lift and shocks? Thanks again!!!

I went with the 3" extended travel non-res since I have Dirt King UCA's. Really they are not noisy at all when you are going down the road or anything like that, just the occasional "groan/creak" when going over a bump slow or hitting a slow incline at an angle.

I didn't want to go the full 3"" so have mine set at 2.5", just personal preference, so I have the Fox 2.0 performance series and the Wheeler's 1.5" spring in the rear, and I love the ride. It literally get better every day. I will try to post a pic.

Not really sure why you are shying away from the Icons, but i will give ya my experience. I have run the Icon Stage 2 on my daily driver for about a year now. My lift is 3"/2" and i honestly have not had a single problem, squeak, etc. I just put a couple shots of grease every tire rotation (5000 miles). I live in Western, TN so i do have to drive quite a ways also to really get into some "overlanding", backwoods camping scenarios too. I wouldn't let the daily drive thing steer me away from a super nice suspension option such as Icon. Of course, this is just my experience, but just wanted to let ya know my experience with Icons and daily driver.

I have fox 2.5 with RR. Personally - I'd probably skip the RR unless there's a good reason you think you want it. If I were buying new today - I'd probably order them from Accutune and have them re-valved with a flutter stack. At some point I will send mine to them to re-valve, but its low on my priority list.

The weight is no problem for the winch/bumper. I have a winch on a hidden mount - but either way you're talking 200ish lbs max. I can adjust to any height I'd like. The Fox shocks at near stock height are a beautiful thing. By 3" lift you've messed with the suspension geometry enough that it's going to ride kinda poorly no matter what you do. Shocks won't fix geometry, but they can help.

I would suggest going with a ball joint UCA - I have JBA. They're low maintenance, quiet, long lasting, and fix the caster problem. There are other good choices too. DO NOT BUY EBAY UCAs. If you're considering them - search for jetboy and ebay UCA. Broken UCAs don't save money... learn from my experience.

Honestly the only reason I've shied away from the Icons is that I've heard they were noisy and were pretty stiff. I think they use 700# springs so that would be pretty firm. Thanks for the info is much appreciated.

I had Icon's with 650lb springs (Icon's standard provided spring for the T4R) on my truck, then did a slimline bumper and a winch and a group 31 battery. I had so much preload to maintain the height I wanted that the ride started to degrade and I still was too low in the front. I think with 600's you'll be in even a worse boat.

Get 700lb coils if running a bumper, even a slimline, and a winch, etc. I made that change and never looked back. Truck handles so much better and the nosedive is gone again.

If you think that you can't run 700's until you get said bumper and winch, you can, just dial barely any preload on them. They will be a little stiffer obviously but they ride fine and you'll just have to adjust when you add front end weight in the future, not have to swap springs.

The only real reason for considering the RR is purely looks. They look bad ass sitting in the wheel wells. I'll check out Accutune. Not sure what the flutter stacks are. Lol. I'll was going to do the JBA UCAs as well. I don't want uniballs and I've heard bad things about the SPCs. Thanks for the info!!

SPC are fine and provide the most adjustment. The ball joint is the weakest part but they are replaceable and fairly cheap.

Don't be too afraid of uniball being you live in Louisiana. I've ran them for a couple years in the south and if cleaned and lubricated properly they have no problems. I think the people who live up north in all the salt have more issues.

Icon makes the delta joint as well, which is said to provide as much travel as a uniball but in a ball joint style setup with a rubber boot.

Good info. Yeah I know if I get the Fox CO I could always change the springs. Pretty sure all of the springs in most kits are interchangeable. Thanks.

I just installed 2.5s on my trail along with a pair of JBA arms.
I've got a warn winch bumper along with a tigershark 9500 and a steel RCI skid.
I haven't driven it yet, as I'm fighting a cold and need to chase a thread on my kdss that started to cross.
I added 5 turns to the fox's and matched them using calipers.

Anyhow, I picked up the tap I needed today and tomorrow is supposed to be very nice out. I'm planning to sort that thread mid day and then I'll see how she does. (Alignment still needed of course.)

Awesome. I'm very interested to see and hear what you think about the ride quality. So you had to add 5 turns to get to how much lift? I've heard that they come set to roughly 2" lift. Please post some pics!!!

Icon coilovers come with 650lb springs that are 13"

If you install a bumper and winch you'll eventually want to upgrade your battery

Thanks. I saw 700# somewhere but maybe that was someone that upgraded to heavier springs. It's not the end of the world if I have to change out the springs at some point.

Honestly I was sagging a bit from the winch/bumper add. I need to drive it at least a little bit to get things to settle. I'll grab pics tomorrow.

Also, they are adjustable on the vehicle. Just pull the wheel, jack it up and you may want to pop the upper ball joint. I used on if my HF punches, gave it a quick edge grind and it worked perfectly - once I oiled up the collar.

Sounds good. Someone recommended Accutune Offroad and looking at the website I think they will change out the springs to fit your needs at no charge. Going to get them a shout tomorrow and see what they say. I hear you on oiling up the adjuster rings. I'll probably run them up and down and apply some antiseize before I installed them. I do that on my race cars and it makes adjusting so easy.

Tires are stock size Blizzacks on trail wheels. (I have a set of Fuel wheels that will be getting all terrains in the spring.)
