Just curious if anybody else thinks the windshield glass is easily chipped. I don't even have 12,000 miles on the odometer and I've already got some little chips in the windshield. Just got a new one today--didn't think what ever it was hit that hard, but put a little star chip in the middle of the passenger side windshield. The other ones have been little tiny specks that you can see if you know where to look and can feel with your fingernail from the outside, but this one will probably need to be repaired. Any other opinions or experiences?

They use mag chloride here and grit, so I guess I'm living on borrowed time, but that chip sure sucks. The little specks I can deal with, but this one's gonna get bigger.

I know this subject has been discussed before, in the problems forum if I remember correctly. You can search and find it.

I was reading about this in other post's , but I also read that the 06 has thicker glass, don't know if that's true or not or how anyone knows but maybe check into an 06 windshield next time around.

Definitely true about the 06 having thicker glass. It is on Toyota's site and the 06 owners who had previous 03-05 have said it too. Not sure what is involved with switching the glas to an 06. Who wants to be a guinea pig for that??? :)

I use PPG glass and it'll hold up better to Colorado's rocks being thown at it. My windshield has some miles on it and it's pitted pretty bad but no cracks at all.

Bonedoc, please do a search on this topic. It has been discussed several times before amongst members here. I, myself only have 14,500 miles on my truck but got a crack in my windowshield at approx. 6600 miles!

Yeah, I saw that thread. Seems like the glass is pretty wimpy on the '05s.
